New Idea for Online Mode

I was racing a 25-lapper at Apricot Hill in my GT-One race car, and an idea popped into my head. I did a search on it, and nobody has seemed to have a similar one. So here goes. In the online "lobby", when you set up for a race, wouldn't it be cool if you could "bet" cars? For instance, you challenge somebody, and you own a Lancer Evo IV. They own an Impreza Rally Car. You could challenge them to a race, and if they win, they get the Lancer, and if you win, you get the Impreza. You could alter the bets so there would be some cash involved, or you could accept/decline.
Another idea would be a "pool" where you could look for cars you want, and then challange the owners. Such as if you own two GT-Ones and want to rid of it without gaining cash, then you could send your GT-One to the pool and hope someone challenges you.
There could also be a mode where each person has to race the same car with the same settings as the other car, and race for plain old cash. Post your comments here.

thats some great ideas... but what are the odds of Polyphony Digital coming to the forums and putting it in the game?? also, there should be like bets for cars, if u wanna sell ur car, u put it online...and people buy it with GT money and u get cash...also another idea of mine is...to have some kind of official drift contest online, or just good drifters in 1 lobby and we all 6 drift close together, and watch the replay

Actually, I'd be willing to bet that PD DOES in fact come to message boards like these just to get ideas...why do you think the GT series is as good as it is?

well i keep mentioning burnout smoke everywhere....they will never put more smoke they will just have some small white tiny looking dust....well PD if ur reading this then put more smoke in the game and change the sound of a burnout and cornering etc. it ruins the game....i like the game a lot, everything is perfect but there are small down sides to it

Yes... That's irrelevant to this thread.

Think we have actually covered this before. I wouldn't do it. People will just make use of the way the PS2 mounts media to remove their memory card before the car is 'deleted' if they lose.

Here's a better idea. How about they have online races in cliques or certain genre's of cars may only race others. Like specialized lobbys, or game rooms (IE. a Minivan only lobby, or a sport compact only lobby). Of course more general, anything goes type of rooms would be allowed for more casual gamers.

Having a lobby which allows any car (a veritable free for all) will result in approx. (i'm generalizing here) 5-10 cars MAXED as being raced, judging based on evidence from other games. This will greatly increase the replay value of this game online. I don't want another online racer like *cough* NEED FOR SPEED: UNDERGROUND *cough* where only 2-3 cars are used and the rest aren't because they can't compete.

That's my 2 centizzlez..

Not necessarily. In NFS4 on PSX you could race for pink slips, and the game just removed each person's car from the memory card BEFORE the race, then saved them both to the winner's card. That way you can't race without taking the rsik of losing your car.

I think GT is as good as it is because the devs are good.

Race Filters and other online racing pre-request

The above subject has lots of online racing ideals. Race for slips is a good ideal, or if 6 players are racing, the winner gets to choose from 5 cars, or you could have a race where the winner can pick any car from the other players garage. Personally, I think entry fees and using entry fees from all 6 players to make up winnings would be best.

I think that being able to race the actual championships laid down by GT4 would be cool... and if you completed it in multiplayer then it would complete in Single player too.

That way you could also race all 6 cars even if there were only 3 of you (The PS2's would make up the numbers. (One from each PS2 possibly (But that's a coding issue!))

Pink slip races would be possible if, the cars would be written of your memcard before the race. When you win you get your own and your competitors car back, while the other gets nothing. So even if someone would disconnect before losing, he would still lose his car.

This has beencovered before, but you'd probably need to search for pink slips not bet car. It is a good and the races would be very tense, especially if you were racing in your pride and joy that took a few attempts at a 2 hour enduro to win.

weeeeeeeeeeeeeee first post :) :) :)

Because you run the risk of losing your car because you cannot stay online or opponents dropping the connection. It should be set so that the cars are saved to both PS2's in the cash on the hard drive or a temporary file on the memory card so that if the connection is lost the users get their cars back. Also that would make it hard to copy cars for quick money

Which is precisely the reason I'd never bet it.

Joseph: Welcome to GTP, but please contribute something if you're going to post.

I thought a bit more about it, and even if you do that NFS4 style system of removing both cars and only readding the winner's to his memory card, you're running a risk. People can still copy saves to other cards, their computer, etc, but if people start losing cars in illegitimate situations such as line drop outs etc, it's going to cause PD hell, and I guarantee that a lot of first time GT players who lose their car for such reasons are going to be using their GT disc as a drink coaster before long. Sure, you can just say it's the risk you run, but I think it's an unacceptable one given the unpredictable nature of the internet, so I certainly wouldn't be doing it.

Then what happens to the a****** who disconnects at the end of the race because he was losing by 5 seconds? :indiff:

He loses his car, we already said that. Cars are removed at the start of the race and only readded after successful completion.

Well GT-Unit it did seem like a good idea but i agree that it is too risky. With back up savges also people could cheat just to get rare cars. They arrange to win someone in the lobby who has a better car than them and get it by winning the race. The person who has lost the car then goes to his/her back up save. I suppose it is up to the person who cheats as to whether or not they do it but it wouldnt be fair on those who work hard to get a good car to compete online with when some cheat could get it with ease. (Though it would be funny to watch the cheater get their ass kicked in the race with someone who has the skill to win the car properly) I thinkm a good idea would be to expand the trade option in already in the game and make use of online. Maybe the seller could actually lose the car and gain money this time.

That sounds a lot wiser to me, with rumours of a flea market style mode scuttling around that may be the way we go about things.
