The young Portuguese driver Antonio Felix da Costa is a small step to agree with Force India to participate in Formula 1 testing, open only to "young wolves", which will take place on 16 and 17 November in Abu Dhabi, immediately after the last stage of the World.

The agreement should be sealed until next week, and the Portuguese pilot should test the 'socks', as the Scotsman Paul di Resta, Mercedes protected, will make the first morning, to serve as a standard, then the two pilots chosen will share the evening of Tuesday and Wednesday all of which Anthony 'Ant' Felix da Costa will almost certainly be one of them, and the other is still undecided.

If confirmed the test, Portugal would have two serious contenders to reach the World in the coming years, since Alvaro Parente negotiations still ongoing, even if we know that in these cases is not enough talented and highest values rise , usually in millions of euros!

Are the Portuguese Pilots going to have another shot with a F1 Car?

No. Da Costa has already signed to race with Ocean Racing Technology in GP2 next season. It's believed that Force India will take Sutil and drop Liuzzi in favour of Paul di Resta. If da Costa were to race, it probably won't be until 2012 at the earliest.

And that's what going to happen. Force India are going to take him under their wing, but he'll spend two more years in GP2 until he steps up.

Calling them the next Lamy is not the best way to start the interest .

Well, no portuguese driver gets near to half of a third of the impressive career Lamy has had so far. He was very unlucky at F1, reaching an agonizing Lotus team, having a very nasty accident and then 2 years of Minardi.

In everything else but F1 he only needs a victory at Le Mans (he bagged the 24 hours at the Nordschleife TWICE) to reach at least one of the pinnacles of motorsport.

PS - And I'm including Tiago's amazing :yuck: podium at Indianapolis in the equation.

Yep,I'm guessing it takes more than talent( $$$) to do well in F1,now-a-days,and that Lamy never had.:indiff:

Lamy was great outside of F1, but when we are talking F1 drivers, he had a pretty disastorous career. He was beaten by all of his teammates (which include Luca Badoer) and he wasn't in the worst teams ever, lets be honest here. Lotus and Minardi were back of the pack but they weren't Forti, Simtek or Pacific. And we aren't talking being beaten by a few tenths either, if you look back at the qualifying times, sometimes it was whole seconds! And if we also look at how Alex Zanardi did against Herbert in 1994, we can't really blame the car either..

Deletraz was also better outside of F1....

Yes he was beaten by Herbert but, at least in 1994, by something between 1 and 5tenths (bar Monaco, but I guess something must've happened there).

Then he had that very serious and unfortunate crash

Then he returned to race 8 GPs in 1995 and he beat Badoer (just checked, in quali it was 5-3, in race they both retired most times, but Lamy was the one that got the only point for Minardi that year)

In 1996 he was very even (tenths again) with Fisichella (but only outqualified him at San Marino and Spain) but yes, he lost out to Fisi.

In conclusion: Lamy reached F1 (as they all do) after a succession of titles in lower formulae, was immediately paired against a guy that was in his 4th or 5th F1 year and had his career shadowed by a very nasty accident that broke both his legs. After that I think something else also broke. He was good enough for Luca Badoer, but clearly Fisi was better. And then he quit, to start an outsanding career in sports cars. It was the right call.

So, I'm not saying he was WDC material. But ... he sure wasn't a rubbish in Formula 1 and it isn't correct or accurate to say that he was outqualified by seconds by all his teammates.

He was a good driver, that wasn't the point though. Its like referring to a potential Italian F1 driver as the "next Tarquini" or a Brit as the "next McCarthy". Kind of suggests they're doomed for unlucky careers, that's all :p.

If we were talking Sports Cars, obviously this isn't the case.
