Hi
Im getting a new mobile on tuesday - Its the Nokia 6230 I think. It has a 32 MB memory card so I can put my MP3 songs onto the phone.

Does anyone know exactly how I get the data from the PC to phones memory ??? Ive tried to search and can't come up with anything

My friend bought a Nokia N-Gage and you get a USB cable with it. 👍

Bluetooth being the wireless standard for devices. It's not fast, but it works. You'll have to have Bluetooth capability with your computer too, though.

A USB data cable for the phone shouldn't cost too much, and all computers have USB these days. Also, the transfer rate is about ten times faster than bluetooth, if I recall correctly.

Bluetooth is 1 Mbps and USB 2.0 is 480 Mbps.

Are you really going to transfer huge files to your cell phone? IMO, I like having a wireless connection with my wireless phone.

Bluetooth is only worth it if you've got it installed in your phone, my friend has tons of videos/audio etc. on his phone.

He said he wanted to use it as an mp3 player. That means he's going to regularly be copying mp3s to it. Mp3s average 4MB, roughly. 4MB at 1mbit is ... really damn slow ... 32 seconds. So if the phone has 32MB internal storage, probably 28 usable, that's 7 songs (weak!), and three and a half minutes to copy.

Using USB 2 the-o-retically you could fill the memory in less than a second. We all know that's a load of bull, so lets use the USB 1.1 standard of 12mbit. Simple math says that'll be 12 times faster than Bluetooth, or about twenty SECONDS.

20 seconds versus 210 seconds. Which do you prefer?

disclaimer: I used lots of fuzzy math

HA!! I know its weak as I may only get 7 or so songs on there but on a mobile phone ?? Ive not heard of or seen one in the UK before so its quite a novelty !!

Anyways I have bought the USB cable connection from Ebay - I'll let you know how I get on with it !

thanks

Yep. Get a Data Transfer cable. It connects your phone to your computer, via USB. All phones nowadays use it, It's better than blue tooth. Hell even my phone uses it and I've only got a Siemens C60. Then again with Blue Tooth, you can get a remote control car too.

Yeah Ive seen/heard of the remote control car !! With the phone - madness

Cable still hasnt arrived - but it could well do today hopefully

AAARRGHHHHHHHH

I am annoyed

I got the cable and all was going well - I had to install these drivers for the thing to work so they went on OK and the PC told me that I had installed my software correctly, the phone recognises it as it gave me a prompt when I was installing them, but on the CD I got with the cable it tells me about rar files ?? I need to open rar files drag them to the desktop then extract them or something but I havent got a clue WTF Im doing so does anyone know about rar files and how they work.

Also does anyone have the stuff installed already onto their phone as I have a question about the actual Nokia PC Suite itself.

rar files are compressed files like zips. You need a program like winrar that can open them.

On the CD that was sent through I have the program winrar, its a 40 day trial thing but Im completely lost as to which ones are rar files and how I extract them and where I put them etc ... It doesnt make it too clear as to why I need to do this. You see I only want the cable to allow me to transfer MP3 from the PC to the phone - I think the rar files are other ring tones and games etc...

I've e-mailed the seller so hopefully he'll give me some advice as to why the program Nokia PC Suite doesnt seem to be accepting the phone.

Im still annoyed though !

Is your phone (I presume it's a Nokia phone) compatiable with Nokia PC Suite? I have it running with my phone with Bluetooth, no problems.

Yeah it is Viper - I got the Nokia Suite with the phone.

I got some more detailed help in an e-mail from the seller so I'll see how I get on when I get home.

Managed to get it sorted at last !! I had the phone plugged in when I launched the program, you have to plug it in afterwards so the prg can recognise it !!!

The phone has a 32MB card which granted isnt too many tracks - does anyone know of a larger mem card for the phone or a way to store more tracks on there ??

The 6230 uses MMC to store data, like most Nokia phones. MMC format can go up to 256MB in capacity.
