They look quite comfortable... After a couple of hours my ears hurt from wearing my Turtle Beaches.

I was rather excited when I saw it, but it turns out it isn't bluetooth, it connects via an USB dongle.

If there's anything life has taught me, it's that official SONY PS3 accessories connect to the PS3 via bluetooth. :(

The slim is short on USB ports as it is.

You can do what CaptainHarlock has suggested, or you can go to GameStop and they sell addons for the Slim PS3's that add more USB ports.

I've used both and while they both work perfectly, I prefer the one in the second link. The product in the first link has a little hook that hooks into part of the PS3, but it is very flimsy and breaks very easily, causing one end to swing out. It stays connected, but little things like that bother me, so I bought the other one.

I have never even tried using the remote that comes with the second one as I bought the hub purely for the 4 usb ports, and it is worth every cent, in my opinion. I no longer miss using my original launch 60gb system (I retired it near the GT5 launch, for fear of the YLOD) and can have my headset, controller, wheel and PSEye all plugged in at the same time. I love it.

That's not really the issue, I bought a generic brand hub at Office Depot that looks rather slick. What I don't like is having my media room cluttered with cables and dongles (owait def not what you're thinking) considering this first-party device could support a bluetooth connection if the PS3 supported certain bluetooth tranmission protocols.

A shame really. :(

Either way I might consider it down the line.

I just ordered a set of these from Amazon since they will be shipped starting Sept 6th. Although I normally play games with surround sound I am curious how the simulated 7.1 surround will work. I "had" a pair of turtle beach stereo headphones which I liked until the pivot at the ear piece broke. I had repaired it but the small wires eventually got damaged. Thought no problem I will just cut and splice them back together. Nope, cheap wire and insulation there was no way to repair the wire so I tossed them. I am curious how the headset will work in a tactile setting. I have a Buttkicker advance and two Clark transducers attached to my driving chair. I never tried the Turtle Beach headsets with the chair since I used them in the back room when playing games. Sony claims that you can hear the subtle audio cue's while playing games with the headphones. I already gained that when I added the transducers to "feel" those subtle audio cue's. We shall hear I guess:tup:

Jswilli please let us know if they work OK once you receive yours.

Also please do me a big favor and see if these work on the PC. If they work on the PC then I'll finally get a decent solution for my PC gaming since I don't have enough space for my speaker set up. If they don't work on the PC then I'll not be getting them.

I've had multiple people tell me they do work on the PC. From what I read, you just plug in the USB and you're good. I read they work on Macs too. I'm definitely thinking about picking up a pair.

edit: From an amazon review:

Works for both your PS3 and PC though you will have some trouble on the PC as you can't boost the mic gain but the sound works great. When turning on the 7.1 audio is seems like you get more treble and less bass.

7.1 and 5.1 only works with the PS3 and only works with games at the moment...PC users can only use 2.0 stereo.

Any ideas when I can get a pair of these in the u.k.

I've been digging a little bit for you and couldn't find a release date for the UK so your best bet may be Amazon US or eBay.

I picked up a set a few days ago and these will definitely replace my Turtle Beach PX21's. The Sony headset is much more comfortable and the ear cups actually fit all the way around my ear, whereas the PX21's kinda smushed the outsides of my ear. Sound quality is a teensy bit better with the Sony headset as well, but not up to par with my Astro A40's.

Another huge pro that I really never knew I would care so much about is the wireless. I'm used to the wired Astro's and Turtle Beach's so I really didn't think much about the Sony headset being wireless, but my oh my is it so much better. I already have enough cables with the wheel and adding a headset (with a 16ft cord in the PX21's case) just adds to the clutter. The gaming area looks so much cleaner with the Sony headset and I can actually move my head around anyway I want without having to worry about the part clipped on my shirt or pants ripping off.

For the price I think the Sony headset is the absolute best bang for your buck. It sounds a little bit better than your Turtle Beach or Tritton headset (in my opinion) and works flawlessly with the PS3. Plug the USB Bluetooth reviver in, turn the headset on and you're good to go, simple as that. I can't recommend this thing enough, and I'm giving away my PX21's to a friend so we can play some Dead Island co-op together. Pleasantly surprised with this headset. 👍

I use the Rock Band USB Hub - got it off the Wii version as well :sly:.
I'm thinking of shipping this from the US - it's gonna be three bilion times more expensive here than in America :grumpy:

Nooo! :(

5.1 and 7.1 doesn't work on the PC... this is of course expected but yet I had hope. I sincerely doubt they'll be releasing a PC driver since it isn't a PC product. 👎

Oh well, I can't be that lucky.

You might be the nail in the coffin for me to purchase this. I've been thinking it over all week, and I think I could really get a lot of use out of it. I don't chat much anymore (but probably will when F1 2011 & BF3 comes out) but I like the idea of gaming and watching movies anytime without worrying about bothering anyone. And I really want wireless, because I have some decent headphones I could use but I can't stand the movement restrictions they place on me.

Nooo! :(

I too kind of figured PC wouldn't be nice 7.1 audio or anything. I'll probably still use them though if I get them. My internal speakers refuse to work nowadays and my actual speakers are hooked up to my ps3/tv.

Edit: If anyone like me missed the $65 pre-orders for this on amazon over am month ago, you can get it for 79.99 on gamestop.com using the code "20ACC" (20% off accessories). It's good until Sep. 15th.

............,

Parker

Cheers for your info mate.

I just ordered a pair today, Buy.com has them for $79.99 with free shipping. I will post my thoughts when I receive them.

Hi. I just bought the PS3 wireless headset and i'm very disappointed that the buttkicker shuts off when using this headset. If I don't find a solution to this problem I'll have to return it.

How and what do you have your buttkicker and headset wired into?

After I thought about it, I bet the PS3 jsut quits putting out sound over HDMI when you hook up the headset. Probably nothing to fix it, unless there is a way to get the PS3 to output sound through 2 ports at once.

So does this work over bluetooth via the dongle? Im wondering if it works with other bluetooth devices?

I've had the headset for a while now but never posted my thoughts so I figured why not post them now.

I should say that I am by no means an audiophile and have no experience with other gaming headphones, higher our lower quality than the Sony's. I purchased these because I needed something for my late night gaming so I would stop waking up my wife with the noise and I thought the price was reasonable.

I really enjoy the headphones and feel they have been a quality purchase. They really add depth and quality to the sound, especially compared to my tv speakers. There isn't a ton of bass but its enough for me, again not an audiophile. I did find that adjusting the headset positioning can influence the sound and bass.

I don't know that the 7.1 simulated surround is the greatest but I have nothing to compare it to. I don't feel like I can pin point the exact location of a sound but I do notice certain things more easily, ie someone climbing up a ladder or approaching me from behind in MW2. The sound is more distinct and clear. People I communicate with online say my voice comes through clearly, where I had issues with people understanding me with the Sony bluetooth mic.

The headset is very large and not the most attractive but I think it sits very comfortably on the head. Before this I used the Sony bluetooth and that would make my ear hurt after a period of time.

Overall, I really like the headset and feel it is with the price. I use these almost everytime I game now. I would recommend it to anyone looking to spend $75-100. If you are willing to spend 2-3 times that I'm sure there are higher quality 3rd party solutions.

Games used with wireless headset: MW2, GT5, GOW: Origins, Dark Souls

I have a set as well. I really enjoy them. Not the greatest as some have mentioned. But are pretty good if you are not so picky.

I also have a set of TB X41's. I do believe the TB's are a bit more clear, but.....but they are also more expensive. Even the X41's are still $140-$160. And the px5's and XP 500's run from $214-$270. Plus you have to run wires from the transmitter to the PS3/Xbox or any other Optical. But thats also a plus, because you can use it for more than just the ps3 or pc. I use my X41's with my xbox/ps3(no chat), Tivo and apple tv.

So if you can spend a little more money, and have more than one gaming console, I would go TB/Tritton/Astro's. But if your mainly using them to game on the ps3, buy em and use the extra cash for something else.

Would it be better to get this (NZ$180) or a $70 5.1 Speaker Set-Up that I could use for the PS2 and Wii as well? I could get a game or two if I buy the 5.1 instead :D

That depends. If you're talking about a speaker set up with no digital sound decoder at all, then I would recommend the headphones. If you're talking about a proper home theater set up with digital sound processing and what not, I'd recommend the sound system.

I'm pretty sure it's got a decoder/receiver... Here's the actual product. Just have no idea what that middle thing is :dunce:
And would it be able to accept Digital Optical?
