I'm starting a new education this month in computer and multimedia graphic design. I'll have choose an emphasis but I'll use the time it takes to knock out the core classes to research, ask questions, and make up my mind. The core classes are quick, one credit courses like Photoshop, Illustrator, Premier, Color Principles, etc. The specific tracks I may choose to emphasise in are Digital Animation, Computer Imaging and Animation, Web Publishing, and Media Imaging. Starting this month I'll be taking the intro, 100 level class. It's basically to make sure you can draw with a mouse and understand computers. I should be able to finish it in a few weeks. Concurrently I'll be taking Photoshop. It goes until October and then I take Illustrator until December. I chose those two to do first because they are the prerequisites for Flash MX and, in my experience, to be good at Flash, you need more than on-line tutorials, or I do at least. So I'll take that in the winter.

I'm doing it at a Community College. I'm lucky to already have a (worthless) bachelor's degree so I can transfer in all the general education stuff and get right to the meat of the program. I'm keeping the option to continue for a second bachelors in the future open. I'll have to see what life is like then. I'm not in a position to stop working.

The kicker it that this is what I started doing in school back in 1988. I'm almost embarassed to say it now, but I changed majors because I wanted to draw on paper and was scared of computers. Heh. Funny how things change.

I figure I gotta go with what I'm good at and what I enjoy. It's a very competitive field but I feel confident of my ability and potential. The money goes to the best and brightest so I better get crackin'.

Cool! Good luck, man. It sounds like an intersesting choice and a good plan.

I was among the last class of architects who learned how to draw on paper, but who had some computer exposure as well. I use almost all computer drawing now, though I often scan hand sketches into Photoshop for coloring and editing. There's a place for both things and I'm glad I've got both skills.

It was relatively short - consider that I read your entire 'vacations' post from beginning to end. The longer your post is the larger a window it is into your brain. Or something smarter...

Good luck. I kind of would like to learn Flash MX myself, but I don't always have the patience to do something like that. Its a wonder I ever learn PS5.5.

Good luck. It's a lot of fun; it's the sort of homework you won't mind staying up late to finish.
