Living in Australia, I can't really guage the popularity of cars like Pontiacs and Chevy El Caminos. Anyway, if GM vice-chairman Bob Lutz has anything to do with it, USA will cop a pair of Australian replacements: Holden Monaro and Holden Commodore utility (Ute). Anyone interested should check them out at:

They're popular here in Australia, and both run 5.7L Chevrolet V8s
www.hsv.com.au is where you can find hotter versions (and they're plenty hot)
 
UUH, just to let you know the camaro is not that popular any more, and I personaly dont like the new body. As for elcaminos well those are still cool.
 
Funnily enough, we got the El Camino in GT6. Weird lol.
