New PS3 install and update ?'s

I just got a new PS3 and I'm having trouble installing the GT6 updates one by one. It won't let me use the method of download the update, disable the internet, boot the game, and install, then repeat...... it just starts the basic game at the main menu from day one and won't even tell me there's an updated version.

I also have read that I can't transfer my game save from the old PS3 to the new one. True? What about thing where I transfer the data from old to new PS3 via connecting the two? If I have corrupt data on the old one I assume it would corrupted new one.


What else should I know? Sorry for asking it I'm really confused. I hope the answer is not that I have to start at day one.

You can transfer using save game data to USB from your old ps3 to the new one as long as it the same PS3 ID.

Thanks for the replies. Im sorry to sound like a newbie, but this is something I've not done before. I understand backing up the game save onto a USB, and regularly do that. I also understand to transfer this to the new console. I've researched enough now to figure out that if putting my data from the USB onto the new console fails, I can get Playstation + and put it onto the cloud, and install from there.

Ive been looking at the the Data Transfer Utility. If I use this will ALL of the info be transferred? If there are corrupt files on the old one, wont the corruption get transferred to the new machine? Then there's the system deactivation that seems to make you disable the old PS3 in order to transfer the data. And would I still need to download GT6 with all of the updates?

The primary question remains. I fired up the new PS3 and started to install the GT6 updates. I followed the process described on this forum of 1. enable internet 2. download and install an update 3. disable internet 4. boot game and install update. My issue is that when I boot the game it just starts at day one, and doesn't recognize nor tell me to install the update.

I know the first 1 or 2 updates are there somewhere because when I try to resume updating there are only 20 left to do.

Ive been thinking of doing just that. I'm getting an internet upgrade tomorrow, so hopefully it won't take a whole day. If it worked for you that gives me some hope!

It will take a while, mine did take around 6 hours I think but I did not take much notice of the time. I hope it all goes well with your downloading .
