New PS3 Transfer doubt

So I got a new PS3 for christmas, and I am wondering if its possible to copy the old GT5 data from my old PS3 and use it in the new one since I am giving the old PS3 to my brother. I'm almost through the whole game and really don't want to start a new account.

I already copied and pasted the GT5 saved game from the PS3 menu through a USB Jump Drive but as soon as I open the game, I get an error indicating the data it's not from the same user.

Is there anything I can do to get this working? I appreciate any help pointing me in the right direction.
 
Did you download and install the latest 1.05 update on your new console before copying over the save?

If you sign in to new console using your old PSN id and start GT5 connected to the net to pull down the latest 1.05 update. This update unlocked the save games so once it has downloaded and installed you should then be able to use the save game from your old console which you copied onto a USB drive as long as you are still signed in as using same PSN.
 
I believe the saves are locked to a single PSN account, are you still using your PSN account from your old ps3? if yes i believe there should be no problem to run your saves on your new ps3.
 
It only works on a different PS3 Account with the same PSN account AND the same PS3 console.
So you won't be able to transfer your savegame to a different console, no matter what PSN account you use.

Think they changed this for 1.05 so the saves are only tied to the PSN they were originally created on and don't need to need to be used on same console anymore. It was added to allow users to back up there saves in the event that their consoles died so that they could just sing into new console with old account, download updates and copy save off USB drive and should work. Avoids the worry of PS3 dying and losing your entire garage which has taken months to build up.

Worked fine for me. I fully installed on both PS3s, and patched up to 1.05 prior to transferring the save game.

Only issues is that some of the car thumbnails in the garage aren't showing up properly, but I really am not that concerned with it. Everything else is the same; including mods and resprays.
 
A lot of thanks to everyone. As many of you suggested, I already had the updates done but didn't sign in on my psn account. I just signed in and everything seems working so far. I was so worried I had to start over again. Thanks again to everyone, this is such a big relief.
 
If I was quick enough to notify, because I did the same thing about a week ago..

In your old playstation you should enter account management and disable your account there and create a new one using your email in your new playstation. You can only use a PSN account in 5 PS3's so I wouldnt want to risk it in any case.

Its terrible that installation data isnt kept with the backup option - at least they are not transferred to a different ps3...
 
there is a featurd inside the PS3 to transfer the content of one PS3 to another. I have done it numerous times and everytime it worked like a charm. It is done through a network connection so you will have to connect both PS3s to the same local network. Don't know if it can be done through a USB cable, too.

Although I haven't had the need to do this with GT5, yet, it worked for the game and save data of all my other games. If you have to switch PS3s and you have the chance to have both of them on at the same time, I highly recommend this option.
