Just announced at Gamescom, a 5th generation of PSP for 99 Euros!

They didn't show if it has a UMD drive but I presume it does because they were talking about UMD based value titles and its the same form factor as the 3000 series. Seeing as the PSP Go was a total failure I'm sure this has one.

Any details, or anything? You made me curious. Release date, bundles?

99 euro psp. looks very similar to the existing psp 3000. Lacks wifi.

Unrelated but I would have liked a release date for the vita....

I'l be updating my first post as I get more info, its just been announced. It looks pretty sweet in that gunmetal colour.

Because they have such a huge back catalogue of titles in makes sense as an entry level gaming device. A new PS2 for example just came out less than a year ago so they are obviously thinking along the same lines.

My first thought is this is going to kill the 3DS dead! Its already been discounted by half (around 100 quid now) and this has better gaming and a huge catalogue for cheaper.

So its called the E-1000, its only available in Europe (are they trying to tell us something!) and it doesn't have Wi-Fi. Out of all the things they could have removed Wi-Fi is a really stupid one because everything portable has it and a bet the hardware costs a few extra bucks to put in. I hope it still has an AV out.

Are those buttons touch sensitive? If so, it could get annoying, being in a game and your hand brushes over the home button...

Looks like EU only man. Shame, because I don't really like handheld gaming, but I would spring sub-$100 for a cheap PSP to play GT, Burnout and a few others. No way I'm spending $250 for Vita though, which I will hardly use.

Doesn't look like it does, if that is the headphone jack on the bottom by the power switch.

I'm kinda curious why Sony thinks people will buy a PSP with basically half the functionality of and much cheaper looking construction than the 3000 (And Mono audio! What is this, 2001?) when it is easy to find used 3000s for less than what it is going to cost. It doesn't even have the brightness adjustment button.

Most likely it will have better battery life and people with UMD game collections can get the latest hardware while keeping the same form factor. Also maybe to phase out production of PSP 3000 to something more similar in hardware that is in the Go and to also make it not hackable.

I wonder if it uses normal custom firmware, or an special one for it.

And I also wonder if the thing uses new technology for its battery life.

Mono audio and no wifi? Wow, even my 1000 series a fair few years back had wifi, I can't see any reason why anyone would want this at all. The price may be cheap but as said before, you can get more for less of you buy a second hand 3000.

It seems a bad deal now looking at the specs, no wonder its not being sold worldwide. It doesn't look like it has an AV out so its already a NO from me. You could probably pick up a 3000 for the same price in a sale or something.

Only thing I want to know is if the battery life and other hardware like the screen and UMD drive has been improved.

Pretty useless thing.
Clumsy UMD discs, no improvements in design, some features removed.

Why not buy an old PSP-1000 for a fraction of that price?

You bumped a dead, 10 month old thread to say that? :odd:
Well is the internet, he is free to give his opinion, no matter how outdated it might be.

And I do agree with him, a PSP-1000 is a hell of a lot more viable, plus it has some extra features.
