Personally I think that Need For Speed: Shift will be best. The trailers and screenshots look better than Prostreet (). Hopefully it's better than Undercover.

shift will be nothing more than an overhyped, window dressed grid. if you look at the car list, minus a couple additions, it's the same they've given us since prostreet. while they keep touting that "the same team that developed gtr2" is doing the work, there's actually no one left at SlightlyMad that actually worked on gtr2. all of their "new innovations" (driver's head movement, in-car cam, motion blur on the edges, etc.) have long been in other race games...some of which being old need for speeds, yet they still call them "new features". and the "two year development cycle" that they keep talking about...all of the new nfs's coming out next year were already started projects that ea bought the rights to. watch out, pretty much everything EA says is a lie.

not to mention...all this hype about shift... nothing more than a smokescreen to the fact that nfSUC STILL does not work.

DiRT 2 is the only one that looks good. Shift will disappoint because they always over hype their NFS games and they always fail miserably. Fuel just isn't my style of game. Split Second is basically a kart game with regular cars. Blur looks just like PGR with generic cars.

Shift may look good but its from EA. Is this the full car list? (I've counted 65 cars I may be wrong) I mean there are more cars in GT5P and its not even a full game. They just release a NFS a year no matter if its good or bad and they hope that people buy it. **** oups I mean shift;) will fail like the other NFS that came out since underground. That's the reason why I chose DIRT 2. I've played the first one and its was a good game, arcadish but its always fun to play.
You should have put GT5 in the choices because it will be THE BEST:sly:

Yeah there's not many cars. and undercover was overhyped and it was absolutely :grumpy:

The hate against Shift in this thread is hilariously close to anti-fanboy/hater status with no real evidence to support claims.

You're right no support, except the last 5 NFS games.

Which, all except for ProStreet, featured completely different points & objectives in the games compared to Shift.

The other ones were nothing more than attempting to cash in on the street racing genre with a story. Shift's focus is completely different & should not even be compared.

More so the evidence for NFS being rubbish are that the last 5 games, despite making some major changes in gameplay failed to be any good and infact have continuously gotten worse each year with no signs of returning to what made NFS great in the first place.

Saying the game is "different" from past iterations is no indicator that the game will finally be good. It can just as easily be a "different" bad game.

Again, the last 5, excluding ProStreet were all street racing games with a story that were poorly executed. Trying to incorporate a script only really worked for Most Wanted. These "major" changes were still a failure because the whole gameplay was still centered around a cheesy story about some guy.

The reasons in this thread are just outlandish, honestly. All your reasons for Shift being crap despite it going in a different direction are because the others were "crap". From everyone's logic in this thread, the last 3 Star Wars (the Prequels) should have been badass because the previous 3 were all good.

It's almost hilarious. EA is obviously trying to take NFS in a different direction from street racing with stupid stories & dumb modifications, which is something most people have wanted. But, now that they're doing that and showing a promising game (even taking the time to hire people who have experience creating sims), you people still want to bitch just because it has NFS on the title.

If this game was called anything else, you guys would be kissing its ass, waiting to build race cars out of many of the cars on that list.

Well it's all about reputation and EA has a bad one.

Also, they brought in some people from Papyrus games awhile back to work on the NASCAR games, the result. Some of the worst NASCAR games in history.

Yes Pro Street was a different direction, but it still sucked.

I hope I'm wrong and they actually do make a good NFS game, but until I play it I will say it sucks until proven otherwise.

Reputation = sales and sets people's opinions but you are saying that reputation is not a valid reason, let me put the question to you in a different case. If you went to a restaurant that sells for example Italian cuisine, and got bad service & food poisoning, then find out a new restaurant is opening by the same person but this time they are selling some other kind of cuisine, how likely are you to go to this new restaurant?

Sorry but offering a different menu/cuisine or in NFS case "direction", would be no reason for me to think that this time the game will be any different.

That's an awful example....Not to mention it no longer holds any water after those first 2 words in your paragraph, "reputation" & "sales".

If Reputation=Sales, then your reasoning for NFS being crap falls flat on its face. You claim the last 5 titles sucked, and that NFS now has a "rep" for it.

Well, if Rep=Sales, then EA must be doing something right. Undercover has sold 5.2 million units as of Feb. 2009, 7% below ProStreet. And looking back through time, I recall every Need For Speed past UG2 hitting the Top 40 All-Platform Sales Chart for the UK continuously.

Normally, I don't think Rep=Sales as that gives the idea that Good Rep. comes from high sales, but that seems to be your train of thought, so you must think EA has a good rep. since NFS titles still sell very well.

You just think that because it has a NFS title on it. As I said, anything else, and everyone would be posting their interest on it.

All the sales are in the marketing and the way they present the game that gets people to buy it. Most nfs buyers are just casual gamers so rep does matter.

-> I used to remember when NFS used to indirectly made diss spot at GT by putting this intro on NFS: High Stakes. Lookie on the "Chibic Tamp-Ar" on the first few seconds of the vid:

NFS: High Stakes

^ Too bad they fell for it in the near future. :indiff:

-> What most people remember NFS is all about are these:

NFS II

NFS: Hot Pursuit II

^ I miss EA doing these games. :(

Me too, that is what Need for Speed is all about.

SHIFT is the only one I'm interested in.

Dirt2: graphics probably 👍, gameplay probably 👍 but I don't like rally games.

Fuel: not interested. I wasn't interested in Motorstorm, partially because it wasn't fully compatible and I don't like off road games. They are like rally games. Oh wait, there is one off road game that I really like. It is pure fun and I still play it from time to time: ==> 1sane

About the other 2. Well, even if they gave me these for free, I wouldn't even look at it and will sell them immediately.

:)

Fair enough I should not have used reputation & sales in the same sentence especially referring to nfs. Wish I could find the article but after underground 2 sales have fallen for NFS.

This whole discussion has been about why NFS Shift is going to be crap because of its history. How about you tell me a reason why NFS shift is going to be good. Saying it is different is hardly a reason because different is not equal to good.

Although NFS Shift looks promising, the problem is that there are so many games like it so I didn't vote for it.

Fuel is game that really could be interesting, as an open world MotorStorm-like game.

However, the game I am most looking forward to from that list has to be Dirt 2. Not only because Dirt was a surprisingly great game, but there are simply so few good sim-style rally and off-road racing games any longer.
