According to swedish Auto news site www.bilsport.se GM will reveal a new SAAB model based on the Pontiac GTP/Holden Monaro called the 9-6C.

Unfortunately the article is in swedish but it says that ever since the new Sonett concept there have been rumors about a sporty SAAB to lift the brand image. Previous "badge engineered" SAABS by GM such as the 9-2X based on the Subaru Impreza and 9-7X based on the Chevy Trailblazer have been met with little interest but this time a lot of work has been done in order to give it proper SAAB feel despite beeing a RWD V8. The LS2 V8 that sits in the car has been refined by Callaway for a more sofisticated SAAB feel. A lot of work has also been done on the interior in order to make it look like a SAAB.

Notice that the article is published april 1st :odd: ;)

Clearly looks photoshopped to me after comparing it to that GTO concept picture.

I wouldn't doubt the car actually being made though. Magazines do photoshops all the time to show what a car may look like. Hell with the way SAAB's going that will be my next car!

*Note on the second picture the Michigan plate, I'll ask some people at work if they know anything about it. (I'm a GM intern just for clarity sake)

I work out in Warren at the Tech Center down in the body on frame mock-up and I haven't seen anything about the car. I didn't have time to walk over the the intergrated frame mock-up today, since I've been working half days all week. Maybe on Monday.

Ahh, over by Detroit?

just look at the reflection in the wheel lip you can see that the spokes reflect silver instead of the photoshopped gunmettal.. thats a pretty cool concept but its fake..

Its too bad that the GTO came out to look like a holden with diffent lights and bumpers.. if the GTO really did have such wide fenders in the back it would be SOO SWEEET!! kinda like an american Aston Martin! hehe

I agree, with the widebody and the wide skirts, even those vents, the GTO would have been a thing of beauty. The concept has such a flowing, curvy, look, that the production model never had. However, one thing I don't see often mentioned is that the original GTO looked pretty much just like a run of the mill family car, too.

That's probably one of it's major problems (I can't think of any others, actually). In Australia, it looks really cool, but americans just think it's boring. (or so I hear, IANA :D)

Cool photoshop, too bad about that colour.

We are all aware that it is april 1st right?

I'd bet a couple of dollars that the article is making fun of the trailblazer and WRX rebadged as SAABs. Especially since it's a sweedish site.

Probably. Compare the pavement in the Saab picture to the pavement in the GTO picture. I think it's a photoshop, but a very well done one.

Either way, it would be a very cool car.

Definately a 'shop job. I just noticed that the first 'SAAB' picture is reflecting orange on the pavement.

Yes, It's an aprils fools joke (sorry I haven't been able to confirm it earlier but I have been away over the weekend).

I think the Photoshop job is done quite good. The article that went with the pictures was also quite convincing drawing lots of paralells to the 9-2 and 9-7 cars, but at the end they left some clues with the comment "to good be true?". Unfortunately the articles was just to long for me to translate for you guys.
