Well my shinny new T500 just arrived in the mail today but I noticed apon my initial inspection that the wheel is not centered. it saems too have a notch about 10 deg off center too the left this is when powered off ( I havnt powered it up yet as i am waiting for my new Rseat to arrive) has any one else had this did it effect the operation of the wheel? dose it go away once powered up ?

Thanks
Doug

I had this issue and no it's not normal. I would ask for it to be exchanged for a new wheel from where you bought it. In my case it was a faulty PCB Board. There are fixes and workarounds for it if you want to go that route. The simplest is turn you wheel all the way to the left, keep it there, and then plug in the USB and power cables. The wheel should calibrate correctly. This is what I do and have been doing since March. It will calibrate off again when you quit playing. The second is dealing with Thrustmaster customer service to get a new PCB Board. This can involve e-mails, phone calls, and shooting video to show the issue. I received mine a few months back but haven't installed it yet as you need electronic expertise.

So if you just received it, send it back for a new one.:). You will love it when you use it.

Well I emailed thrustmaster and they gave me a few things too try I didn't think any of it would work but tried them any way. I hooked the wheel up too my lap top and updated the firmware and guess what it still didn't center it almost feels like there is a lump the belt. So while I had it hooked up to my PC I clamped it down too my desk and took it for a spin with Rfactor it works perfectly. And what a step up from my G25 I did re email thrustmaster so I will wait too see what they say.

I will have too give that a try, I dont know how I missed that on the thrustmaster site but it is a little hard too navigate and doing a search did not give me this in the results. Oh well

Thanks

This is all you need to know to centre it:

1) Connect the racing wheel's USB cable (on PS3 or on PC), then wait for the auto-calibration phase to end.
2) Turn the racing wheel fully to the left (until you reach the stop).
3) Turn the racing wheel fully to the right (until you reach the stop).

4) Make sure that your racing wheel is perfectly centered ; while holding it in this position, press the START, SELECT & MODE buttons simultaneously (SE, ST & MODE buttons on the GT wheel; BO, WET & MODE buttons on the F1 wheel).

5) The racing wheel's LED briefly changes colour, then reverts to its initial colour.

This means that the wheel's center value has been reset and automatically saved to the device's internal memory (you do not need to repeat the procedure every time you connect the racing wheel); this applies to all of the T500's wheels (GT, F1, etc.).

Anyone know how to do the manaul re-centre procedure with the 458 GTE rim? Mine is off by a fraction.

SE / BO (button 7) and ST / WET (button 8) are position "2" and "OFF" on the Manettino dial of the GTE rim, so it's physically impossible to hold both simultaneously.

Stupid question: did you tighten the wheel on all the way?

Indeed, the screw system takes some practice, I would try putting back the GT rim, see if you can center that one, then go back to the GTE rim.

I know my GT and GTE rims have slightly different soft material at the base of the screw thread, it might just be having to compact that material on the GTE rim or something tiny like that....

Yeah, it's no bid deal. I can just centre it to my liking in-game. The locking collar system doesn't seem a great design. Good for quick changes but i'd rather have some something more fixed. I mean, how tight is tight?

But tightening the locking system is beside the point: obviously wheel centering is relative to the connector and plug, not the position of the locking collar. So if you can't center the wheel with the GTE rim then you will have to reattach the GT rim and use the centering approach with that rim, then switch back.
