new thrustmaster t500 pedals don't work

I just recieved my new Thrustmaster T500RS package. The steering wheel works but the pedals do nothing. I was on the phone with tech support yesterday and they had me install the drivers, update the firmware and attempt to calibrate the pedals. The process seems to go fine until I get to the "Calibration Motion Controller" screen. I press the X button as directed and nothing seems to happen, and when I try to use the pedals again, they still don't work. The instructions say if the calibration does not work, try pressing the triangle shaped button to disable the magnetic sensor? Once again nothing seems to happen when I push the button and when I go back and test the pedals again, there is no change, I still have no action when I press any of the three pedals. Unfortunately tech support is not open today and I would like to get my new system working today instead of having to wait until Tuesday when they should be open again. If anyone has any suggestions, I would appreciate hearing them. I am an old guy,(56) and no computer expert so I wouldn't be surprised if it something simple that I am doing wrong? :)

Thanks

I take it you have no PS3 (wheel might work there and you can eliminate its the pedals)? Perhaps your drivers are not installed properly?

So this is odd you just clearly stated the wheel works but the pedals do not?

What color is your Mode button? Is it red (default f1 position)

What version of windows you using?

This sucks man I feel bad for ya

-- Made sure the pedals plugged into the back of the wheel base? My bad for the silly questions. Just gotta be 100% sure here

You could also try the pedals in a game that shows braking input like iRacing or something

Do you have the Thrustmaster drivers for a computer? If so can you get to the calibration screen and see if the pedals are connected with the wheel or separated.

I am using the PS3 and I installed the drivers and updated the firmware as tech support directed me to do. The wheels seems to work fine, it allows me to steer on the screen but the pedals do nothing. I don't think the mode button has ever been on, the LED above it always lights up green. I am using Windows 7. The pedals are plugged into the back of the base and I think everything is hooked up right, tech support walked me thru it. I would imagine I have to pay to test the pedals on a different game on the internet? I do not have an ethernet cable which seems to prevent me from making some changes to either the wheel or the PS3?

Thanks for your help!

They should just work when going into the driver configuration screen. You go there via start > programs > Thrustmaster > Conguration screen. In that screen when pushing any pedal it should register movement on the pedals.

Also about the mode button, that led is what the guys above mean. If it lights up green it is in the mode for the pedals hanging down, red is the one for having the pedals coming up from the floor. Pushing the mode button switches the gas and clutch pedals and also the led so you know what mode it is in.
So since it is green maybe you were pushing on the clutch pedal instead? ;)

I haven't seen a "driver configuration screen"? I go to start>all programs>Thrustmaster>T500rs racing wheel> control panel menu. Under Thrustmaster I see: Control Panel
Firmware Update
Update Service
I then click on Control Panel where I see Thrustmaster T500RS Status OK. I click on that and it takes me to the screen that allows me to choose, separate or combined pedal operation, as well as test input, test forces and gain settings. Anyway, that's where I'm at.

Thanks to you all, and I'm all ears!

That's the thing I meant. I was typing from memory on my iphone earlier. Sorry about that. Plus since I use a Dutch Windows all the apps and app names are in Dutch as well, so it gets kinda confusing as translations differ per app as well.

Anyhow, left of the seperate and combined pedal selection you have 3 vertical bars, correct? If you push any of the pedals one of these should fill up green from the bottom up to the top the further you push the pedal in. Does it do this or not?

All three of the pedals make the green bars go up individually, so I guess this means the pedals are at least sending a signal? While I am doing this I am not going thru the PS3, the wire from the steering base is going straight to the computer. Does this mean that the problem lies with the PS3?

I really appreciate the help!

I am not using a USB hub for the PS3. I am running the wire from the wheel directly to the left usb port on the PS3, which I believe is the #1 port?

that is correct

That is part of your "mode" red and green lights. Now depending how your pedals are mounted, "F1" or "GT"

Connect it to your PS3 via USB in port #1, try the pedals if they do not work push the light on the lower left side of your wheel, the "mode button" it should change color, now try it.

I gave it a try and changing the mode had no effect. :grumpy:

Thanks

The pedals and wheel are working correctly looking at the response on the PC.

The only thing I can think of is if the wheel is assigned to controller #1.

To check this hold down the PS button on the wheel when in-game. In the lower left corner it says Controller with the assigned number behind it. This should be 1 and if it is not use the second menu option there called I believe controller settings. Now if you did that try again.

What version wheel?

I had V3 for Xmas, very much plug and play with PS3 (have not connected it to PC for any reason yet)

Make sure the wheel is connected to PS3 before turning PS3 on

I don't know what V3 is? The wheel is the T500RS Thrustmaster, is that what you mean by version? I bought the wheel new from Amazon about two weeks ago. The wheel has been connected to the PS3 when I turn the PS3 on.

Thanks

V3 is just the version wheel, since launch they have made improvements to it (the actual wheel is the same) so I was wondering what you had.

Do still have the brown box it came in? If not the normal box will have a sticker underneath by the bat code, it should say what version wheel it is

It looks like it is version four, (V.4).

Thanks

Do you have the latest PS3 firmware and GT5 game updates?

I'm sure the issue is with the PS3. Also try a different USB port and make sure every other wire of the wheel is hooked up, then start the PS3 via the on/off button on the console itself.

I'm running a version 2 wheel here on GT5 2.02 and the latest PS3 4.00. It works fine here as I just did an endurance race of 2 hours. So I am seriously puzzled as to what the issue is.

Please excuse my computer ignorance but I don't know what PS3 firmware is? I also don't know how to get the GT5 game updates? I don't have an ethernet cable so I am unable to connect the PS3 to my computer. My PS3 System Software is version 3.66. Under Game Data Utility for the GT5 I see the word version and a blank space after it. I have tried both of the USB ports on the front of the PS3 with no change. All the wires are connected, in fact earlier today I unplugged everything and tried again. I have been using the button on the front of the PS3 to turn it on and off, is there another way I should know about?

Thank you

The PS3 firmware is the operating system of the PS3, also called the XMB. Think of it as the PS3s Windows or MacOS. Simply sign in to PlayStation Network (using your PS3) and it'll automatically ask you to update your PS3 if there's an update available. :)

You can also turn on your PS3 by pressing the "PS" button on your controller, the normal pad with the sticks and buttons. :)

Ok, thank you. I just got off the phone with tech support and they suggested that I get an ethernet cable or a wireless setup, since I have neither, I'll go buy an ethernet cable and install the new PS3 and Gt5 info. Wish me luck!

Good Luck!
Thanks Mr.S for explaining the technical details. Was preoccupied with the game myself. ;)

Oh yeah, I always forget that most of the world's internet connections are as slow as a snail compared to mine. Whoops!
It's just that when you're used to a certain internet connection speed you tend to use it as a standard for your estimations.

Yahoo!!!!!!!!!!!! It's working!!!!!!!!!!!! I went out and bought a wireless router last night but I couldn't get it to work, jeez, so here we go again. I gave up on the router but I used its ethernet cable to connect the PS3 to my computer. I downloaded all the updates for the PS3 and the GT5, and yes that did take quite awhile but everything is now working like a champ! It only took me a week to get this darn thing running but now that it is, what a blast! Only problem is that I stayed up too late playing the game, I can see how this thing could be addictive. :) Thank you so much guys, I couldn't have done it without you, (or at least it would have taken who knows how much longer). Life is good once again!

Sincerely,

PS: I told my 73 year old, car guy buddy and now he wants one too!

Great to hear it's working, enjoy. :)

Great story and happy to hear it's working! 👍
Happy to hear we'll have another guy to the community soon as well. ;)
