I never realized there was such a huge drag racing scene going on with GT5 (then again I haven't had it for long and I never really bothered in GT4)...

Anyway I just tossed together this Camaro the other night for some Indy fun. It "appears" to be running low 9's at IRC on like a 2min tune. I'll obviously know for sure when I start tuning more and checking in the 400m. Idk, I would think it could be better, or maybe not... either way I AM NOT HERE TROLLING FOR A TUNE! I want to see what I can get out of it based on my knowledge of the real life physics and things I've learned through the series since GT1. I'm curious to find out what the time bracket is that I should be looking for out of it, but don't really want help with the setup.

I know there are faster cars too but I'm sentimental to this one remembering our real life 68 RS/SS when I was a kid.

I'd like to find some muscle/pony car rooms or something eventually but from what I've seen cruising around they seem pretty scarce.

Every night my friend and I hold a muscle car room. No veyrons, x1, audi's, zr1, acr, etc. Pure muscle. Add Dwight_C and we'll run with you. See you soon.

There are a lot of rooms for old-school muscle, you just have to look around.

Welcome to the drag racing community. The said fact is that not many people tune that car as it is the slowest of the muscle cars.

Ya I figured that was why there aren't any mention if them around. Still fun to play with though.

I had wanted to do a Charger or Chevelle as well but I haven't won one yet and/or its not unlocked for me yet.

Or even a variety of cars to begin with. Most on here like to tune a good variety of cars, but once you head out into the public lobbies you find everyone using gtr's, acr's, veyrons, the dlc tc cars, etc. They just want to drive whatever they can beat you in with no skill required. It doesn't matter to them they beat a civic with an enzo, all they see is a win. It's pathetic really. But as I said, there is a good group here. It shouldn't be hard to find people to race in whatever you like. Welcome to GTP!👍

By the way, we tune everything we can from the lowly z28, super bee, etc. to the challenger, chevelle, cuda. So feel free to run whatever you got!

Your best bet is to trade for a low mile version.

If you havn't invested in tth he new test track route x you should consider it,you can really get a better idea of the e.t your running and its a cool track to drag on.Keep your eyes out for low mileage cars and do an engine overhaul,it will restore h.p to the used cars in most cases. The Challenger srt8 is a good muscle car as it can compete with most others except the cobras.Good luck with tuning.

Oh ya I plan to tune a bunch eventually ;) I just started with this because I could get it and customize it the way I wanted and was a 1st gen. I just pine for the days of going to the "local industrial road" before generation rice moved in and pushed all the muscle out because of their antics.

Don't get me wrong, I don't hate imports, I just much prefer classic V8 power ;)

I grew up in a family where we had a 68 RS/SS Camaro, 67 Chevelle SS 396, 65 Pontiac GTO, 68 Pontiac Tempest, and a 70 GTO 400. You can see why I'm partial ;)

The Challenger SRT8 was actually the very first car I bought in the game. I have a cpl of them now and have one slated for this.

I do have the SSRX DLC and plan to use the 0-400m extensively when I get the time. I'm married with 2 kids so I don't get to drive as often as I'd like :-(

Thanks for the warm reception everyone :)

Your camaro is not runing 9s no way its in mid 10s

Do enlighten me to your great wisdom on how you know that.

You saw my tv? I should report you for peeping :p

Also, if you were paying attention I said it was at Indy which is not only shorter than 1/4mi but very arbitrary in timing nature. So ya, in a 1/4(400m) it could be in the 10's. I didn't claim any hard numbers at all.

Yes it is actually 1280ft as opposed to 1320ft.

But until Kaz gives us a better way it'll do ;)

I don't understand? He did give us a better way. Purchase the Route X Test Pack. Then you can race your 1/4 or 400m with a legit timing system.

Since he dosnt have route X I'm assuming his low 9 second time is to the shadow at Indy...where his pic was taken.

Did you guys actually read eightlives post? And my response?

Let me spell it out... yes I do have the SPECIAL STAGE ROUTE X and NO I DIDNT CLAIM MY CAR DID 9's on it.

And as eightlives also pointed out 400m is NOT 1/4MILE! But it's close.

Seriously? Cmon guys.

Whoops. Sorry I misread that, thought you said don't, Small letters on my phone are hard to read sometimes.:)

But until Kaz gives us a better way it'll do ;)

Your right, I did miss that, however how would this make sense if you own the Speed Test pack. That IS the best way to do it... and not to mention easier than doing it yourself and faster!

Ok guys before I get into trouble here im gonna back up a few steps...

I was "screwing around" at IRC the other night ... I wish I hadn't brought it up!

Ok, now... I have not had the time yet to go to the test track (I bought the DLC for SPA) From what I have seen, people use the 400m as a base for tuning, correct or no? If not why did people cry about it for a year before it was "given back" in DLC? True that this is NOT 1/4mi, yet you say "when we do it we run 1/4" so how is that? Seriously I must either be missing something or had one too many Optimator's while sitting on the couch. We are talking about 40ft here people... if all your gonna do is go online and lose a bunch of races at Indy then I don't think 40ft is really gonna matter much! It will definitely matter less than me saying the thing ran 9's... on ANY planet sheesh.

However, ya, I am interested in what the "standard" is but if you spend any time reading different threads around here it looks to me like everyone has a different take or at least doesn't have it put down in a standard format in a thread somewhere.

Ok, reading this again... maybe I have actually had too many fermented beverages :s sorry [\rant]

Maybe just b-spec tonight if I get to play lol.

Actually I think I misread this before.
You nailed it exactly... to the shadow at IRC... so highly subjective...

Like I said, should have kept my mouth shut on that. Instead I look like some new punk that thinks he's hot ****! Lol

Oh well, there are worse things...

You have the option to run 400m or 1/4 on the speed test. And 1/4 is the base for tuning especially since the test track was included.

Seriously? Damn, ok I really need to go look at that...

I wish I had the kind it time I did when GT first came out on PS1 :-(

Obviously, if 1/4 is an option now that is a no brainer, duh.

Thanks for the info on that :shame:
