right lads im new here, i posted a hello thread but in case you missed it hello.

ive started to get into drifting in gt5 and ive been practicing the last few days and rather enjoying it but i need some help.

im currently using a 1991 mazda rx7 fc. im using the df gt wheel and pedals. see i have two problems, one sometimes if im trying to straighten the car up after a long drift eg last corner of tsukuba the car will fishtail all over the place and im not fast enough to catch the damn thing. second when ever i go near the handbrake for tight hairpins i either over cook it and do a full hand brake turn or i dont do it enough and the car straightens mid corner.

i can post up my cars setup if its of any use but i think these are basic things that im personally doing wrong. ie driving techniques. any tips or help would be appreciated.

thanks

I don't know enough about drifting to answer your questions... though I never feel the need for a handbrake to initiate a drift in FR cars with a decent amount of power. That's all I can offer.

Oh; your shift key seems to be be broken, you'll want to fix that for future posts. Just a friendly reminder. Thanks, and hopefully someone can provide more useful advice!

Practice, Join online and watch videos. Try different tracks, you may drift better at Suzuka than at Tsubuka.

Hey guys thanks for the replies.

Since my last post ive been out practicing. I changed my tyres from comfort soft's to comfort hard's thanks to a nice person online. This seemed to help with my car control. I didn't think less grip would equal more control but it did.

As for the handbrake thing, Ive been practicing on the hairpins of tsukuba and i seem to be getting better.

What I meant by the handbrake thing was that if I need to use it I dont seem to be able to control it. I dont use it to initiate drifts, I mainly use inertia drifting and power over techniques. But sometimes I come into the second hairpin on tsukuba a bit too hot and need to use the handbrake to swing the back around. As I said sometimes I get it right, others I mess up. I think maybe practice is the key here.

I'll give a different track a go and see how I do.

You shouldn't need more then a fraction of a second handbrake application if you use it, its not needed for very long at all. If its straightening out mid corner, I suspect you aren't applying enough throttle after you use it to kick the rear end out.

As for fishtailing at the end of a corner, well there are 2 methods to fix this, one is let off the gas entireloy, its not pretty but it will be easier to catch it after a drift, or 2 work on your steering your most likely countersteering to much and when the rears grip it just throws the car, as stated above practice and exprence are your best friends cause it seems the issues you're having are pretty low level drifter problems (no offense) and it will go away with time.

No offense taken man. I'm the first to admit I'm a noob when it comes to drifting. Thanks for the input, think I'm just gonna need to spend time at it.

Fishtailing issue sounds like it could be corrected with more delicate throttle control exitting, try feathering it more and getting used to finding your neutral steering point to snap to so you're not going a bit past where you need to be.

2nd big corner of tsukuba is one of my absolute favorites to drift. If you link the esses before it into it it's amazing. Coming out of the right hander I usually get completely off the throttle as soon as I've swung the car to the left and just use a full on 4 wheel drift to slow myself down for the corner. Check out my photomode gallery in my sig, one of my latest pictures is of the 4 wheel drift I just mentioned :)

I personally almost never use the side brake. I never feel right initiating with it, sometimes if I can reach it (inconvenient on the dfgt) I'll use it basically as a clutch kick during a low speed drift, but that only really comes up for me on turn 1 of autumn ring mini.

yeah i think it would be better to learn how to inertia drift first because of all the people that use it online. i my self have learned how to drift with the ebrake so i am at a disadvantage when i try to tandem.

Inertial/kansei drifting is more of a high speed technique. The first thing I would suggest learning is a basic braking drift. Brake to bring the weight forward, initiate the drift, and bring the power into it. Pretty easy to work on at Autumn Ring Mini, the corners are forgiving and track is wide, so it's conducive to just getting used to bringing out the tail and clipping the apex.

Tsukuba seems like it would be easy as well, but the narrowness of the track can make it a little frustrating. It's an easy next step after you're comfortable on Autumn Ring Mini and can enter drifts consistently, though. That last sweeper is probably going to give you a bit of trouble for a bit though, so don't get discouraged.

If you feel like spending about 700,000cr the Corvette '60 is a great car to drift with, im fairly new to drifting and i can easily score atleast 8,000- 10,000+ points on eiger nordwand, just keep practicing and get to know your car and a feel for the track

Hey guys firstly id like to say thanks for all the comments. I've taken on board alot of the information given here. I've since change various aspects of the way I drift. I have now done the following: slowed my entry speed, abandoned the handbrake, using foot braking to slow a car down before corners while using feint style to get the back to swing round, changed how I use the throttle and various other small things. I've also practiced and so far have seen improvements. My car control seems to be getting better and Im now starting to find that sweet spot in the steering someone mentioned.

I've a quick video here for you lot to see, all comments welcome. I do know the car Im using might not be the best for drifting but I like it. Also in the video I know I messed up at the second hairpin but it's better than what I was doing haha.

anyways enjoy 👍
