hi everyone
i picked up drifting recently, and now im hooked, just can't seem to play any other modes XD

I played for a few days up to this point, and i drift a rx7 prem on tsukuba, and im asking for some feedback, since im not sure what im doing wrong at certain points during my drift.

i get on average about 10k-12k points on section drift, but it feels like i could get more, since i have trouble with aspects on each of the 5 corners

the rx-7 i drive has the tune on the drift depot, except i believe i use n2 tires instead of n1

so here is my problems with each section, i know that im not the best of drifters, and instead of telling me that i suck (i know that already XD), i would appreciate it if you gave me a bit of advice on what im doing wrong, or what is wrong with the tune im using

corner 1 (long wide turn) av 3.2k - 4.0k points
floor until the red mark (racing line), immediately handbrake (no brake) and turn right, hold down the throttle/ countersteer appropiately, i end up angling about 60 to 70 degrees as far as i can tell, at half way in the turn the car ends up sliding towards the outside of the track (if i don't have a lot of angle), or the car loses sideways momentum and i have to straighten out for a moment (too much angle). Im not quite sure if this is a problem with my driving or tuning

corner 2 (u-turn, medum) av 2.3 - 3.2k points
accelerate until red line, brake until end of red line, hand brake and turn into corner. counter steer appropiately. sometimes i also try braking earlier and hand breaking before i start turning in, as to get sideways before approaching the corner, and accelerating when the road bends inwards. these both seem to have the same problem wheter the drift succeded or not, which is that at the middle of the turn my car slides towards the outside of the track (occasionally off track). Is this because i approach the corner with too much speed or a setting problem?

corner 3 (slight s followed by medium u-turn) av 2 - 2.5k points
ignore the s turn, brake on the red line, and handbrake drift the u-turn. when i try to feint drift on the s i end up overshooting and sliding off track, either because i can't steer back in the direction of the corner fast enough or i snap back too fast and the car ends up past 90 degrees. Im not quite sure how to feint drift, so if anyone could leave me a link to a diagram or video teaching the technique i would be grateful

corner 4 (large s turn) av 2k points
hand brake hard and slide on the straight about 8 meters from the first turn (sharp and to the right), power over to try to initiate drift on the wide 2nd turn to the left. i tend to have the same problems as corner 1 on the 2nd half of the s, either i slide outwards or i lose speed and i end up almost driving off track or having to pull straight early. not quite sure what the problem is here

corner 5 (sharp u turn) av 1k - 2k points
i honestly have no clue how to approach this corner at all. a lot of the times i fluke it, but the front end of my car is sliding on the grass on the inside, then when i try to put a little more speed on the corner i slide out of the track. i saw some online drifting of this track, and it seems that sliding sideways a while before the corner and holding that angle until the turn banks seems to work out alright, but im not quite sure how they manage to hold the straight drift. any pointers for this corner would be appreciated

any advice or feedback would be appreciated
Thanks guys!

I don't drift with the point system. To me its pointless just like the racing line. Try drifting without either, that way your not worried about getting max points or staying on the line, and u can focus on drifting. Try using comfort hard tires, most people use them. Do u have a good tune for the car? Having a good tune is key to drifting well. Keep practicing and i'm sure u will get better in no time.

Corner 1: If your going to fast then use the brake a bit. The way i do it is way different than anyone else. Try to keep a good constant speed around the turn. Don't hold the throttle unless you have to or is needed, feather the throttle and be gentle with the countersteer.

Corner 2: You should initiate the drift before the turn. It sounds like your going in to fast, slow it down and drift closer to the inside. Again, feather the throttle and be gentle with the countersteer.

Corner 3: Don't ignore the s-turn it will help u get in the groove for the u-turn, it can also help you slow down. For the s-turn, try to start it earlier and keep the speed constant. As for the u-turn, same as corner 2 but you have to work with it more since the turn is sloped.

Corner 4: You don't really need to handbrake, if u can combine the turn before with it then there is no need for the handbrake. You seem to be going to fast for the turn so i would slow down.

Corner 5: With this turn you do need to slide sideways awhile before the turn. The way i do it, if i have to much speed i will hold the handbrake until i hit a certain point. You will have to practice to get it, once you actually drift it and continue drifting more times you will realize it's not that hard of a turn. Anyways, keep near the middle of the turn. You need a good speed and angle, not to slow and not to fast.

I don't know if this will help but i tried my best to help you out. I hope it helps you out though, keep practicing and you will get better. Good luck

Thank for the detailed reply, that's actually quite helpful, i will try when i get the chance to. I've read that feathering the throttle is the way to keep stable and not spin out, but strangely i feel more comfortable keeping the wheels spinning the whole turn, and it feels like i begin to slide outwards when i let go of the throttle, instead of gain traction. I like the rx7, I've tried the Silvia rm ( which was nice but seemed to be less powerful and able to hold drifts), blitz skyline, and the ford mustang, which i can't get to drift predictably.

Another few thing s i was wondering about is the cornering line. Does the ideal, out in out still apply while drifting? I guess if i got sideways before i entered the corner that wouldn't matter as much. Also, if i were trying to do that ( slide sideways before cornering) would I use the brake to hold the angle/ control entry speed while sliding or would it be better to brake before getting sideways be better? I guess the best way to phrase that would be should i be adjusting my speed while drifting (thus allowing me to enter the turn at a range of speeds) or should i have s very controlled and consistent speed while drifting? If i can adjust speeds, what's a good technique to practice?

Sorry for the newbie questions, and thanks for the help

I will give you some valuable, simple advice.

Try not drifting for points, drift for "fun," just attack the course. The points system is incredibly flawed in GT5, where it's actually laughable.

Then, get away from Tsukuba, branch out and do other tracks, IMHO Tsukuba isn't even that fun to drift. It also won't teach you much as many of the corners are really similar.

What I would do? Go drift something like Cape Ring, Nurburgring GP or anything else but Tsukuba, for fun, preferably with others online.
