So I just started trying out the drifting thing this weekend. It's fun, and challenging, but I have a suggestion for PD that would help people learn drifting a little better.

What do you think if they were to add a drift angle gauge on the screen for the segments? I've found that I've had huge, saveable drift angles, and then all of a sudden my score drops to zero because the game thinks I took it too far.

Or at the very least, they should increase the limit by a few degrees, nothing is cooler than reverse entry!

Let me know what you think. If it gains traction (pun intended), we could add it to the Feedback section.

Most people in the drift forum, including myself, don't drift for points, so I doubt this will generate any interest.

Indeed, as your new you'll be using drift mode i assume but everyone on here uses standard free run. A angle bar is also very arcadey.

I have to agree with what the other said above, for starters the physics are different from Drift Mode to online lobbies which most of us drift in, but maybe the inclusion of a drift gauge would be cool.

Here people are, complaining about realisim and you want to stick and angle gauge in there? really? lol

But yes, it does seem a bit arcadey and more a NFS or Juiced sort of thing.

It was in Race Driver Grid, if I remember right. It was only shown whilst in bumper, hood and interior view, for obvious reasons.

I liked having it actually. Yes, it's a bit arcadey, but so is the way tyre wear is shown. Without an being able to feel G force and keep your head facing the direction of travel, it's pretty much impossible to judge angle from inside the car, let alone see where you're going. Which means I drift from chase cam, which is quite unrealistic also. It makes it tricky to get really close whilst tandeming too, unless you use contact to feel it out, but then the unrealistic/laggy online crash physics come into play.

The point system that pd put in for the drift trials is just based on angle. Yes angle means a lot but if you look at D1 they judge on many different factors that are sometimes impossible to recreate in a virtual world.

Pretty much everyone drifts on free run or in lobbies. Unless you drifting in seasonal events, then try not to do reverse entries that could take off your points.

Do you see D1/FD/BDC etc drivers with "angle gauges" in their cars? Nope.
It's just too arcadey, and this is supposed to be a "sim".

Yes, but do you see anyone playing GT5 in a full 6 axis simulator rig? Nope.
Ask anyone what the biggest difference between virtual and real life drifting/racing and it's not being able to feel G force. G force lets you know when the car's sliding and how much it's sliding. Also, without us having head tracking implepented online, we can't use that to jugde angle either. Do you see D1/FD/BDC drivers looking straight ahead whilst drifting? Nope.

Weeks ago i heard that there is how to use the sony eyecam to capture movements and give you free head movement. Would be nice to try it.

Personaly i always prefered to use the 3rd person view (chase cam), to have a better feel of of angle, and specialy to have a 360º view, what can helps a lot while tandeming... but if not everything is perfect, with no doubt the very first thing about all the GT franchise is how they think is right to develop a external view cam.

and the biggest drawback of virtual vs real life IS the weight shift, or "g force" not looking out the sidewindow lol, your doing well and/or have lock mods to do it anyway

You can set up the playstation eye toy to the game, but it only works in arcade mode, Not online.
