EDIT: nvm my post, I continued to search but phrasing the question differently after explaining the problem in this post, and I read it's a well known "issue" in the forza series and the only solution that mitigate (but apparently still not totally solve the problem), is using a wheel... I feel deeply sad now, I can either pass on that game, or spend a bunch of money and space in a "proper" wheel without any guarantee I'll be pleased with the result... honey moon is over I guess...
Hi, long story short, I had an almost 15years hiatus from racing games, and got back about a year ago but mostly "old games" from the 00's, and then I recently decided to get fm7 as I could get an hand on it and I had the console for.
This game is a lot of fun and I have a lot of fun since a week. I've spend the last two days on spa with a brabham bt24, AI aside, tons of fun and awesome fun way to grind credit. But after 2 days, I still struggled to pass the first and last corner properly, at least with a minimum of speed. (abs off, tcs on, stabliity off, sim steering, elite 1 controller) I always "understeer", unless I approach really really slow to a point it feels wrong.
So I started to get into the tuning of the car, but when looking at the telemetry to detect what might be wrong and the effect of the changes I was testing, I realized that it might not be a tuning issue, but a controller issue (or a skill issue, let me know).
I realized that the drivatar doesn't really react properly to the steering input. I managed to find bunch of posts about controller issue and the related advanced settings to control how my drivatar reacts to the input (which give a bad taste, I want to control the car, not the driver).
Now, after testing multiple settings, what would you recommend to get the better settings with the "minimal filtering" possible, as it feels it more subtle than just a "range settings" ?
I understand a linear response on a stick might not be the best decision, and I'm not looking for that neither, but here it feels like the drivatar is just preventing me from using the entire steering if I want to depending on the speed, adding delay at best, or just limiting the range at worst. How can I fix that ? I want to make mistakes and be responsible for them, if I screw up, it's ok, but let me screw up and learn, not learn how to control the driver with his/her own opinion of what should be done and filtering my intents... "let me break my car" haha.
Also, regarding the trigger, what would you recommend so the full length of the trigger is used ? The last 25% of the throttle trigger is wasted, and the brake trigger reach 100% at about 50% of the trigger distance. Which is ok considering the vibration help to feel grip, but it feels like unnecessary precision is required when only half of the trigger is really used. And for those also, it feels like those "100% deadzones" depends on the speed too and the velocity of the trigger press.
So thanks for any inputs, I really want to like this game, but this feels like this will become a deal breaker over time for me as this is really frustrating, despite the amazing tracks and car garage for a simple casual like me, at least now that I'm aware of it.
