Hi

I am new to the world of GT5 and would like to know a little about the academy edition i got for xmass.

Will there be tournaments for academy as i found info on academy 2012 ?
Will there be prize cars for golds in events ?
What is the diffrence between my version and my old man's signature version ?

Also can i play online at the same time or set up a lan like we do on the pc ?

1) Click here for info on the GT Academy Editions special events.

2) Dunno, see above.

3) The main difference is that your version comes with several game updates already installed, & it also has much of the DLC included for free.

4) There is no LAN racing in GT5, however, you can join the same lobby as your father. If he's on your PSN freinds list, then click on Community in GT5, then on his icon, then on the My Lounge coffee cup & enter. Tell him to do the same & you'll both end up in his private room. Or, go to Open Lobby, set up your own room, & tell your father to join you in the same manner described above but by clicking on the orange icon next to the coffe cup icon instead.

I hope that helps, & welcome to GT Planet! :D

Thanks.

There are three of us in the house now with gt5 there's going to be some good racing.

Many thanks loving the seasonal events go to level 21 and just under 20 mil and haven't done a licence or a single player race yet.

Car i really like so far.
Honda Weider HSV. Handles really well and is super fast for its spec.
NSX GT500. Lovely car to drive i feel i can throw it round any corner at high speeds.

Just bought a few cars from the online dealership not tried them yet.

Driving Options i use.
TC 1
SRF off
Active Steering off
ASM off
ABS 3
Driving Line on until i get to know the tracks

Anything you would suggest ?

The driving line really doesn't help you much because you will rely on it too much. I use it for a while in the beginning and when I finally turned it off I would overdrive the tracks. It's easier to just drive the tracks without the driving line and learn your breaking points on your own.

Just drive the tracks for 10, 15, or 20+ laps and you will learn the track.

I think the driving options you use are fine if your a new to Gran Turismo. I would recommend when you get better at the game then you can start to turn down or off some of your driving settings.

Join a Dirty NASCAR room. With all three of you in the room together it will be a good laugh.

Do all the licenses if you want some free cars and more experience with different cars and situations. But the Mercedes Special Event was the most helpful for my driving.

I kinda wish GT would do more to encourage players to ratchet up the difficulty. Right now, a player's only motivation to toggle aids off is to work at becoming a better driver, which is good for those with that drive but some might shy away from the added challenge. Forza still makes the aids optional, but it rewards you with extra winnings if you play without ABS, TCS, ESC, driving line, et cetera. If you run all aids off and AI on a hard difficulty setting, the winnings difference is enormous. I think I earn roughly double what someone would get running all assists.

Turn the TC off & learn to modulate the throttle for optimum traction.

Set ABS to 1, unless you're masochistic & wish to join the elitist snobs in the ABS 0 brigade! ;)

The driving line doesn't show the fastest way around the track, it will make you slower if you rely on it. Turn it off, & then learn the fastest lines by following faster drivers in online races, make sure they're spec racing otherwise you'll end up with a false positive.
