Hi all,
My name is Brian, and I am a PS3 noob! I am now a cross platform gaming geek! PC, iPhone, and now PS3! I'm an ex soldier, now a cheapo security guard (hate my boring job!) I enjoy a lot of sea kayaking, and walking my doggy - a rescued Greyhound called Smokey.

My Kayak...

My Dog...

Me, back in the day...

I have a few questions...

I have just bought a second hand PS3 from eBay, and have stripped the old data off and started again. I have chucked the GT5 disc in the slot and POP! Its update time!

Apparently I am downloading update 1 of 6, its been doing this now for about 2 hours and is only at 8%. Is this normal? I am on BT 20Mb broadband - wireless.

Is this due to the recently shaky nature of PSN? Or am I doing something wrong?

I have been a fan of the GT series since the original game on the PS1, and then GT3 on PS2. I have only just bought a PS3 because I have to travel about a bit and need a more portable gaming machine than my liquid cooled gaming monster!!

Thanks all,
Brian :)

Welcome to GTPlanet.

The GT5 update will be large for the first update. But it will have a more polished product.

Look around, join in and have fun. If I can help, let me know.

Cancel patching, then try again, if it still happens, you're :censored:ed

Hi all,
Thanks for the quick replies :)

I have done an Internet Connection Test, and here is the result...

Obtain IP Address Succeeded
Internet Connection Succeeded
Playstation Network Failed

I have done this test several times, and even switched off the Media Server Connection as I found another post. Does connecting the PS3 to my home router actually work, as this will be a bit of a ball ache to sort out.

Or is the Playstation Network down at the moment?

Its probably something I've done wrong!! It usually is lol... :dunce:
Brian :)

P.S. If at first you dont succeed, hit it with a bigger hammer!! :banghead:

You should install GT5 before you update it anyway, but this does sound like a problem with your internet connection. If you can I suggest you connect it with a wired connection as it's better than wireless and far less things can go wrong with it.

Success!!! :) I re-entered my wireless key, and paused a certain program that downloads/uploads a lot of erm...

Well anyway I got the PSN to connect, but Connection speed, down/up failed.

Brian :)

Found it...

PS3 asks you to install the game and there should be an Ok button press that and wait it to install.

Any internet problems, first thing is to check your pr0n downloads.

Easy to overlook.

I had to go into the game settings, the PS3 just flashed passed another window on its way to the game after I binned the update now option. I'll get used to this new fangled console soon!!

Do I have to re format my external HDD's to FAT 32 for the PS3 to recognise them?

Brian :)

P.S. @BarronGeddon LOL!! Captured!!

Sadly yes you do and if the drive is larger than 32gb you will need to use something like SwissKnife (free download) to force the larger drive to be fat32. You also need to make specific folders in the newly formatted drive called PHOTO, VIDEO and MUSIC then dump specific files in the relevent folders. Also beware of putting files too deep in folders as the ps3 seems only able to dig into 1 folder within the initial folder. eg... MUSIC/Band Name/Album Name/?.mp3 i think would be too many folders but MUSIC/Album Name/?.mp3 will work.

I hope i explained this properly but if not am sure someone else will correct me lol

Welcome to GTPlanet Brian. :)

Sorry, I can't offer any advice on PS3 technical stuff. Enjoy GT5 and your PS3. 👍

Hi all again, thanks to your help I have got gt5 up and working! Thanks guys :)

Just wondering where I buy a '79 or earlier Japanese car now lol...
One other thing, do you lot drive with all the aides turned off or on? I am having great fun with a maxed out Manaro and no aides switched on!! Love that supercharged V8 sound :)

Brian :)

^My first bit of advice:

Do all the license tests just so you can get free cars, and then do the kart racing in the special events to make quick cash.

Choose a car like the Honda Civic EK or a Mazda Miata as your first car. You shouldn't regret it. One of you first performance upgrades should be sport tires, soft if you can afford it.

License tests and the special events should be done in the beginning also. Both are a great way to gain experience, credits and prize cars.

Take your time in the beginning and try to only buy the cars that you need to complete specific events. Also don't forget to try B-spec mode. Create a driver, train them, and let them earn you some cash and prize cars too.

Can you delete game saves, or start a new game from scratch? I just went and splurged all my cash and cars on maxing a Manaro!! Lol

Make a backup with a USB stick first if you're gonna delete the game save (which is in Save Data Utility on the Game menu, just find GT5, hit triangle and delete it), then start a new game. You never know, it could be at least a little helpful... 💡

Thank you very much yet again. Still not used to consoles (big PC gamer) but I'm getting there with your help.

PS3 does not like sharing your bandwidth, especially if your file sharing up or down.
