Hi guys,

I'm new to race gaming and I have some questions I hope you will be able to help me with.

1. My PC is an i7-920, in summer it MIGHT hold 3.2ghz. Winter 3.6ghz. GFX is GTX 480.
2. Display is 2560*1440

I would like to buy a wheel, probably a Fanatec Porsche GT3RS and pedal set and get into sim/race gaming.

Will this PC play something like AC or Project Cars ok? If not, would a graphics card update be enough, and if so, what is the lowest end one that will do that job? GTX 750ti? GTX 770?

I enjoy realistic driving games, but not overtly technical. I'm lost when it comes to things like gear ratios and such. Would AC or Project Cars meet my needs?

Thanks for any help. Even without a playseat, its quite an investment, so I'd like to make sure everything is ok.

You meet AC's minimum requirements, min is the GTX 460, and recommended is the GTX 660.

You're also fine with Pcars, min is GTX 260, recommended is the GeForce GT 650 series.

I haven't played Pcars, but I've played Assetto Corsa and it fun for those who don't tune everything. I usually tune most cars but with AC I've just been sticking with the default setups, which are still quite fun as the defaults aren't overly tamed like other games.

Thanks grog,

I will start with just the wheel then, and perhaps upgrade my graphics at a later date should the 480 not be satisfactory.

Yeah it should be an Ok starting point. I was just noticing talk of some new Nvidia cards which are fairly cheap (I forget which one EDIT: GTX 970) but I was a bit irked that right after I built a system the GPU prices went down (for an even better card).

Oh and I got those system requirements from here , it can be a handy tool for making sure your system is capable of running a game. You might want to just go there and check those games again cause it can do an auto detect of your system which would provide an even more accurate answer for you.

As for upgrades (whenever you do it) I would look into the GTX 970, it seems to have taken the price spot the GTX 770 used to occupy.
