Wassup, my name is Josh.

I've had GT3 since its release, never really drifted much. Ive been searching and looking for tips so i wont spin out much. So far i have a Silvia s15 with the GTVault settings. They work great, its just i keep spining out :yuck: Im using a DS2, and AT. Can anyone give me a few hints for a Newb? Thanks. I have a Dig cam, i plan to make a vid when i get used to this. :)

Hey welcome to GTplanet. Enjoy your stay with us.

Most setting in GTVault where made to fit a certain style of drifting that fits each individual. I suggest that you use a stock car with (you can use the S15 since you like it already) stage 1 turbo and sports breaks. Take off the tcs and asm., and hi the track

That should be good enough to get you started. Remember to use the search button.

Welcome to GTP...

To have total control, you really have to make the switch to manual transmission... After that, it just comes down to throttle and countersteer control... If you aren't already, I would suggest using both analog sticks, as it allows for the greatest degree of variable control, next to using a wheel...

Besides that, it just takes loads of practice... There isn't any trick to it, or any magic settings... Trial and error is the only way to achieve fluidity and consistency in your drifts...

Practice practice practice.... That's the secret...

hes the man!
really though, at least switch to mt so you can have better control of where your powerband is.
but besides that, pratice pratice pratice! even the best of us still spin out every now and then.

HEY JOSH YOU MADE IT!!!! It's Ricky ;) Yea silviadrifter is pretty much the guy who knows about everything. Hes skilled in all tpes of drifting, FR, FF, AWD. Also like previously segguested switch to manual its much easier since it doesnt auto shift and you lose all the tire spin due to the next gears torque. Well if you need any help you can ask me, my new aim is SidewayzS15

Thanks for all your help guys, Turned out i needed a little more sticker tyers. Im doing fine now, well better than before. Cleared about 3 coners w/o spining out. IMO MT is way better than AT, and I was using the D pad 👎 Again thanks for the tips, i have along way to go before i get good as some of you.

Rick: Damn man, good to see you here.

awww....SD, i bet you're so proud! haha....im just messing with you man.

all i can say about settings is that you will probably get better ones here than at gtvault.

the best settings you can get are the ones you make yourself, though. 👍

Hmm, what kinda tires are you running?

I first learned drifting by powersliding on some of the rear heavy cars, mostly the Altezza and CLK55 and even the JGTC Skyline, and learning to control the oversteer. I also learned a bit from the original GT, using a stock Viper and using the brake lock to slide my way around the turn. Later, I switched to sim tires on lighter cars, like the RX-7 FC and the Trueno (because I was Initial D fanboy ohhhhh) and after several months I learned how to drift on my own.

Switch to MT, it'll help a lot. Practice enough with it until it feels natural to use. It took me a while to get used to it, but after a day or two it should feel like second nature and you'll feel funny driving AT =P

As far as settings go, I usually strap some random settings that I don't really know what I'm doing. I think learning to drift is really not so dependent on the settings, and the settings make an experienced drifter better but as a novice it didn't really help. I struggled with Cudaman's RX-7 FC settings and S13 settings just as much as I struggled with other cars, so it's more about learning the basics first than tuning the car.

Of course, one day you'll hit a limit and need criticism from others to get better. I'm at that level but I don't have a digital camera or capture card to make a video showing what I need to improve on =X Back in the day, it was only Cudaman's drifting to compare myself to =P

I am a student of all styles and techniques... I don't consider myself a master of any...

However, I do think I have enough knowledge to help others that may be having trouble, just as Pergatory did for me...

We're all students.

Try not to get so much of an angle because, it sounds like your trying to drift in a 80-90 degree angle, which will cause the silvia to spin out unless you are good at handling the car.

For some reason, the Silvia doesn't want to handle 80°-90° drifts. :odd: If you want to try other cars for drifting. Definitly try the Trueno Shigeno Version. It's very good. ;) And like they said before, switch to MT. You'll see why.

If you do want to achieve this angles, use any AWD car.

He's right about that. AWD and FF(Sliding) are the cars that can get those 80 degree plus angles and pull out of them.
