I have an old 26" LCD that I use with my PS3 it supports 720p & 1080i but has no HDMI input & I thought it looked pretty good until I played GT4p on the new TV in my lounge which is 42" 1080p through the HDMI.
So now I want a new gaming TV ready for GT5 but cannot really afford another full HD Tv right now & want to know is the difference in quality due to HDMI input or 1080p?
If its mainly the HDMI I could probably stretch to a HD ready TV. Does 1080p make much difference on a 26 or 32" screen?
Please anyone?

First off, eddy, this should have been posted here. Somewhere along the line a Mod Touring Mars will move it. :)

I'm not overly familiar with what inputs are available in the UK, but if you're using the cable that came with the PS3, that only carries 480 (or whatever your native res is there (5xx maybe?)), not 720. A PS3 component cable would be a good place to start if you don't already have one.

I think I'm right in saying it is the HDMI input that gives a better picture. I have a 1080i TV in my room, which I use the HDMI for which is a great picture - I tried the 1080p TV in the lounge, and the picture had no real difference. Using the component cables, both are visibly worse looking in my opinion.

I am using a component cable at present as its the best I can connect with, but did not want to buy a HD ready TV for the HDMI input, only to find I was still not happy. If however on a small TV the difference between 1080i/720p & 1080p is almost unnoticeable, I would rather save my money.

(Sorry if I posted it in the wrong area)

I have both 19" and a 32" 720p TV's and all other things being equal, the 19" should have a better picture than the 32 for the simple fact that, because they are the same resolution but the 19 is smaller, the pixels are smaller, thus producing a clearer picture.

That said, I also have a 50" 1080p, so for the sake of argument we'll compare the three. Just because now that I'm thinking about it, I'm also curious.

The 19" 720p has a screen height of 10" so it has 72 horizontal lines per inch.

The 32" 720p has a screen height of 15.5" so it has 46 horizontal lines per inch.

The 50" 1080p has a screen height of 26" so it has 21 horizontal lines per inch.

So, again all other things being equal, the 19" should have the best image quality of the three, despite one being 1080p. Of course, a 19" with 1080p would blow them all out of the water.

Also, depends where you sit. I can't watch standard def on my TV from anywhere closer than 10 feet. (It still looks poo, but it's actually watchable!)
