Hello,

I am thinking to get one of the horizons. Should I get 3 or 4 ?
The pro's and con's I see:

Horizon3:
PRO:
Australia gorgeous landscape (I live in France so these landscapes are really WOW for me)
No clothes when leveling up
Can get H3 + Hot Wheels expansion for the price of H4
Common perks tree for all cars

CONS:
Older car list

Horizon4:
PRO:
Seasons (But my son is home one week every two weeks, so he may never see some seasons :( )
Newer car list
Route creator to share with my son

CONS:
Landscape is familiar for me as UK is close from home
Less varried landscapes
Clothes when leveling up...
perks tree for each car

Questions:
- Is there any car handling difference between the two games
- Which day is the season change?
- Is there other reasons to get one game or the other ?

Thank you :)

  • There is negligible difference unless you're playing at a higher level. One notable thing is that the environment is more destructible in Forza Horizon 4; you won't get stopped by as many trees as you would in Forza Horizon 3. There are also subtle differences to how cars handle off-road.

  • Thursdays, usually around 3pm.

  • Forza Horizon 4 is a game built for drop-in, drop-out play in a large shared online world. Every week new challenges and activities are added, and at every hour #Forzathon Live encourages all of the players to gather together at one location and do some small challenges for a few minutes.

Forza Horizon 4 is largely focused on team play and casual racing. If you're into Multiplayer that can be frustrating sometimes as you have little control over what you can choose to race in. Forza Horizon 3 has a slightly more traditional Multiplayer experience with more freedom of choice.
Personally I'd recommend Forza Horizon 3 if you're buying a game outright (your son will love Hot Wheels Island). If you have Xbox Game Pass or feel like subscribing for a month or two, then go for Forza Horizon 4.

We're solo players (silver)... so all the new H4 features have little impact...
So maybe I'll turn more to FH3 with HW pack.

Thanks

I think that Horizon 4 would be better overall, if you're going to play it yourself. FH4 is a better game overall and would be more enjoyable for you. Your son may be a different matter. What is he into and roughly what age is he?

While Hot Wheels will be great if he likes messing about and stuff but FH4 is much better if he just wants to drive about - you can go pretty much everywhere and cars are much easier to collect. I've played both games for pretty much the same amount of time and while I've got about 1.5mil and 50 cars in FH3, I had at one point 4mil (before I bought a LaFerrari and McLaren P1) and 200 cars. No duplicates.

I would suggest Horizon 4. That route creator is what tips it in favour of 4, imo.

If the route creator has any serious draw for you, i'd highly suggest getting 4. Like Flashfire, the Route creator has been huge for me. Really ups the replayability factor. I pretty much just race on created routes now.

I'd get FH3, because it's great, and it's cheap now. If you like it, then you can get FH4, which I think is the better game overall (despite a few drawbacks here and there, most of which won't affect you if you don't play multiplayer anyway).

Some of those drawbacks you list, I don't really see as drawbacks though. Your mileage will vary with the cosmetic unlockables (your kid might love them), but I prefer the per-car perk trees over the FH3 mechanic.

Also, while FH4 doesn't have the extreme environmental variation of FH3, it's still plenty varied. The coast is different than the highlands, which is different than Edinburgh. Plus you've got the variation provided by the seasons - dirt roads handle way differently when they are blanketed in deep snow, for example.

Visually, I also think FH4 is just more refined overall. You don't appreciate the difference until you go back to FH3.

Either choice, you're a winner.

Your son can blueprint any season he wants.
Hi,
Could you tell me how this works? I can decide to race un summer when the game is in winter season?
Or is it simply that I can create a route (race) and preset the season?

Thanks,

Hum with all your replies I'm now deeply in doubt again :)

I was in the same boat as you. Start Horizon with 3 or 4?
When reading reviews, all said that 4 is a step up, an even more complete game.
I think the seasons are a nice additions, handling is bettter and the newer feel and cars are worth the extra €.

I would recommend you to try it out with the 2 weeks free Game Pass trial (Play Anywhere - so you can play it on pc).
As I'm from Belgium, I understand that Australia feels more exotic, but I while playing the FH3 demo I didn't have the same urge to buy the game as when I played FH4. So I started with the free Game Pass trial and I'm convinced I will buy the game.

Keep in mind, Friday 23rd of November (8 more days) is Black Friday. Maybe there will be a deal to make.
So it's worth trying the game pass and wait a few more days.
(You will keep your saved data and won't need to re-download everything when you buy the game afterwards.)

Thanks I'll try the FH4 demo more in depth.

I have the same question as well however I wish to own both, and I jumped on FH4 first by getting the Xbox Game Pass and enjoying the game as my first Forza title.
  1. [*]Differentiating destructible trees from solid ones has gotten a bit easier, and the forests areas are not hyper dense as FH3's rainforests, but the same problem persists. The past two FH games made it easy for typically ill-fit vehicles like supercars to go offroad, throwing player incentive to get a suitable car such as trucks and buggies useless. Now FH4 vehicles can feel unease going offroad with excessive wheel-spinning, suspension bumping, and a lack of surface grip. They would require dedicated rally tuning to navigate that surface better now, and some models cannot get away with a simple tire change.
[*]FH4 is more 'current' so you'll be able to enjoy the game as it's currently new and active with a community and confirmed post-launch support, plus it provides the open-world sandbox that any other Horizon game would give. However your points for FH3 are valid reasons to consider getting that game too.
I too have outweighing reasons between FH3 over 4 and I share some of your sentiments. The world setting is more appealing than 4's, but that's cause I rarely experience familiar world settings in video games (many games have a Western or European world). It is the only one so far to have GT racing cars, but ultimately you should only decide between 3 or 4 if you want it for the Toyota or Volkswagen cars respectively.

However FH4 did feel better at times over that. Their world did make the UK appealing and all the seasons further make the game beautiful. New car list also means FM7's revived cars from FM4 made it to FH4. Plus it helps the PC player out, optimisation is greatly improved over FH3.

I would start with FH2, or FH1 if you can figure out how, or aren't in a locked region or whatever the deal is with backwards compatibility.

Blueprint events were introduced in FH3 and basically allow you to use an existing route to create your own event. You can change the type of car used (eg: supercars, hypercars, hatchbacks, etc), the weather (including seasons in FH4) and race name (and in FH4 what championship it is - this will affect what you get Influence/XP for at the end of the race). In FH4 Blueprint events were expanded upon so that you can create your own routes (select Create Route from a race start point) by driving around and placing checkpoints. It can be completely varied because there are no set points for checkpoints - you place them where you want them to be. Then you can create a Blueprint event for it and there we are - your own route and race.
