Is there some way of moderating this more closely? I'm getting about sick of everyone disrespecting the GT Academy guys and doing nothing but 🤬 about stupid DLC and patches. I think if a comment doesn't have anything to do with the news release itself, it should be deleted. Would cut down on the arguments and clean the place up.

About sick of the disrespect. 👎

Yes, I was just looking at the comments posted overnight, which seem to be particularly inane and rude. I'll clean them up shortly. Unfortunately, the site's blogging platform doesn't seem designed to handle the volume of comments GTPlanet's posts receive and makes it tedious to moderate and manage them. Some changes will be coming to the site soon which will hopefully make the process easier for me.

Since we brought it up, Jordan, I've mentioned before a while ago; I love the fact that links in the forums open up in new windows/tabs and don't understand why links in the news page don't.

Would this be a change worth considering? It's more convenient that way, as things stand right now your site traffic is actually being redirected when you link to sites outside of GTPlanet, instead of just opening the link in a new window.

Just right-click (or COMMAND + Click if you're on a Mac) and choose where you want the window to open.

Forcing links to open in new tabs/windows is generally considered a bad practice in web design and usability, as it takes control away from the user. That said, it's the default in every major forum software I've used - which I'd assume is so you don't lose your place while reading a lengthy thread. I wouldn't consider it for links in blog posts.

What, like a major site update??
Yes, GTP11.

Hmm, good point. Thanks for addressing my suggestion. :)

Great to hear about an update coming soon.

Yet - Jordan, wouldn't it be possible to make it necessary to use the account used on here on the news page as well? That'd probably cut down the profanity quite a bit.

I'm guessing that's not possible, at least the way it's currently set up, as the forum runs on vBulletin and the news is WordPress and they likely don't talk to each other.

Yep, currently it isn't possible (I needed a new account to post content on the News page), but who knows what sorts of things Jordan's working on in the J-Cave...

It is possible (with some hacking), though I haven't linked GTPlanet's WordPress and vBulletin user databases for a variety of technical reasons. I agree forcing users to post under their forum names would encourage more civil discussions, though I don't believe it would solve the problem altogether. There's something about the atmosphere of blog comments (in general) that seems to bring out the absolute worst in people. I've found that even sites which use Facebook's embedded commenting system - which subsequently requires users post their comments under their real names - are no less idiotic, rude, or hostile to the blog's author or the topic.

I think the key to solving the problem comes down to better moderation, which I can enable by improving the tools at my disposal.

On the "more employees move to Fukuoka" page, some person wrote "who cares, release some DLC :D"
At that point I broke the mug in my hand and my hands were all bloody. :grumpy:

Another moderator just for the news section would be appropriate. The forum mods and admins have enough problems as it is.

Just a heads up, there might be quite a few "unfriendly" comments coming up on the post about the XNR. There's already a few sweary ones, and with the number of people who apparantly hate this car, I expect more will soon follow. Just letting you guys know if you didn't already, since there isn't a report feature there that I can see.

Blog comment reporting is coming in GTP11.

How do some people get avatars, I know you do Jordan but now other people are, also on GTP11 is it possible do forum users to use their account on the blog?

Unfortunately, no, you won't be able to use your forum account to post comments on the blog in GTP11. Gravatars are the avatars associated with blog comments.

Looks good, I'll probably keep it the same as my forum avatar, so everyone knows who I am.

It really is too bad we can't expect the same level of decency on the blog comments as we can on the forums. Some people really just really like arguing, and it sucks that we have to deal with them. Major props to everyone who helps keep the forums in check. It's obviously not an easy job. 👍

Two questions, on GTP11 will the gravatars show up on the computer and not just mobile, and also does BB code work on the replys?

No and no, though you will be able to use basic HTML formatting tags in blog comments as you can now.

Within the next few months. There will be some important announcements before its arrival, so you'll know when it's close.
