I was unaware of this until yesterday then it popped up when I went to Steam. It's a whole new approach to the game pad as far as I know. Dual trackpads that are infinitely programmable with the ability to share setups, two stage triggers, enhanced tactile feedback features

I believe the Steam controller has been announced since last March of this year, and the reception when it was unveiled in a recent video game conference/meeting wasn't quite good. You might think that the trackpads, with the impression of more precise controls, would make your usual D-pad become ancient but they are extremely tricky to use. People found the controller quite uncomfortable to use, among others.
