Next gen console might be shown at E3 this year.

Unless T10 breaks away from the pattern they promised, FM5 will arrive this fall/winter. So if FM5 is a launch title, the nextbox would have to ship this fall. Seems a bit unlikely...

Yeah it does seem a bit unlikely. I think they will "announce" the next gen xbox at E3 and later F5 will be released on that. But I am only guessing. GOW4 will not be out this year because they already have Judgement in 2013.

I am not sure how it worked with the 360 because I didnt pick it up at launch. Did they announce the 360 at one of the E3 shows? How much after that did the 360 launch?

The 360 arrived on November 22, 2005. I remember this because over half of my savegames are dated 11/22/05. Apparently Microsoft was too cheap to include a date/time battery on the motherboard, so it resets every time the 360 is unplugged.

According to Wikipedia, the 360 was announced earlier in the same year. So maybe it's not far-fetched. I think we can presume one of two things: the nextbox will ship earlier than the usual November, or FM5 will ship later than the usual October. :)

Oh ok. So if they do announce the new xbox at E3 then the new xbox really could come out by the end of this year 2013.

I am still so dang backlogged on 360, PS3, and PC games I cant even comprehend the thought of another new console. I sure as heck wouldnt buy it at launch. I will wait probably 6-12 months before even considering it. The 360 had so many dang problems. Its going to take a miracle for me to consider the next xbox.

I wonder if it will have a blu ray player.

Yeah, people sorta accepted the 360's faults as unforeseen foibles and teething at launch, but a lot of people remember that crap, and a lot of people are happy and satisfied with the 360 now that it's settled into its groove. This could be a hard sell for Microsoft, or a real disaster if there's no backwards-compatibility with 360 games. After all of its issues, the 360's arsenal of software is probably the only thing that kept it in the console race.

Yeah GOW4 seems quite unlikely since they're working on fine tuning Gears Judgment for release. Maybe further down the line, somewhere in 2014, depending on how the console does.

All signs point to FM5 as a launch title. I wonder if today's TVs will suffice for next gen gaming. I own a 40" 60 Hz LCD screen, 8 ms response time. All set then?

Actually, GOW4 is being developed by an outside studio, People Can Fly (guys who made Bulletstorm), not Epic Games. GOW4 could be in development by Epic, its hard to see them doing nothing.

It's gears of war judgment that's being developed buy people can fly, I'm sure epic are hard at work on gears 4

Backwards compatibility is very important. But with each new console, less and less games are backward compatible. So I have a feeling the same will happen with the 360. As for unreliable 360s. I am on my 5th, my wife is on her 6th, brother on his 3rd. Most of ours were replaced for free because of RROD but still its just insane to comprehend how many 360s people go through because of how unreliable they are. I still have my original Nintendo and it still works. I still had my original Genesis and Sega CD and it still worked before I sold it on Craigslist last year. The new console better come with one heck of a warranty.

Epic is working on GOW4 for sure. People can fly will just be working on the "filler" or "prequal" type games inbetween major GOW titles.

True.

If the rumors about the system getting away from DVD's and BluRay turns out to be true, then the dependability of the next system would be worlds better than the early 360's. Less moving parts and less generated heat. And that is why older systems generally lasted longer. They did not create enough heat to warp their own circuit boards during normal use.

I'm still on my first 360  Really happy with that. They probably stopped replacing broken systems for free? It even fell over a few times because of my cat, fell off the table and kinda broken it's fall by kicking it, not a scratch!!

I really hope the next console is coming before winter starts. It will have all kinds of features I probably don't use, so I hope the price won't be insane due to that.

I wonder how the Valve console will perform against the new PS3 and 360. Its supposed to release at almost the exact same time.

I have a feeling it will flop, I doubt the PC crowd will buy it and I don't see people choosing it over the new Xbox or play station.

The Valve console will never succeed without killer software to rival the innumerable popular console-exclusive series out there. When I think of Steam, I think "FPS" and "indie games." That won't be enough.

Yeah, with cartridge media and CPUs that didn't even require a fan, it's not really a fair comparison.

However, I've spent many hours on my Gamecube and Wii without ever gouging a disc, killing a laser, melting solder, or cooking a CPU/GPU. Granted, the Wii isn't pushing as much processing power -- though the Gamecube out-muscled the problematic PS2 -- but I think Sony and Microsoft ought to step up their game. We'll have to see if the Wii U falls victim to its beefier specs.

I agree that Microsoft needs to up their game in that respect. It's funny that the 360 had reliability issues like that, especially seeing that the original Xbox was mostly trouble free for most people.

Is there one company out there that has more throw away technology than Microsoft??

Between xbox deaths and upgrading your pc...

Dont forget the terrible $20.00 headsets. I cant even comprehend the amount of friends that have purchased these over and over again.

These things are pure junk. The male part that plugs into the controller always wears out on these headsets.

^ I got of that wagon as soon as I could. Now when the 3/32 jack gets wonky, I get a $5 jack from the electronics section of K-mart.

Still no word on if Microsoft's Nextbox is going to be compatable with it's broke-tastic wireless racing wheel, Fanatec's or the "fabulous" MadCatz Wirelrss FFB wheel. That is one of the major sticking points w/ me.
