A computer-controlled suspension system, with redesigned multi-link front and rear axles, more efficient engines and a nine-speed automatic gearbox promise to make the latest S-class a better drive, a more relaxed ride and a more sparing consumer of the planet’s resources.

9 Speed!
I may just trade in my w220 for this next generation S-Class. Not a fan of cabrios or coupes, as long as they offer the S600 I'll be pleased. Can't wait to see AMG's S63/65 either. Looks like it'll be one hell of a car!

I'm quite glad that the M275 and M156 aren't going anywhere in the S-class, at least.

Nevermind. Misread the article.

M156 is already gone in all models except the C, SL, and the M159 variation in the SLS. The M275 really should be replaced or upgraded, it's a somewhat antiquated design for a flagship V12 engine, the new MB V8s are far more advanced.

Considering what it is meant to do, who cares?

Well, when your less expensive models feature direct injection, variable cam timing, twin cams, etc. and your $150k+ plus top of the line models don't, that frankly doesn't make sense. If I'm dropping that kind of coin I'd want the latest and greatest under the hood, wouldn't you? Seems a bit cynical if you ask me.
