NextWorld Is another futuristic new show that explores how our world may look soon. I have to say it's cool and some of the stuff they've actually showed looks closer to reality than I thought.

One thing that really bugs me is the episode of future flight. I know it's inevitable we'll take to the skies since we are populating so fast, but I really don't share the same enthusiasm to these people when they say, the public will be flying and will be aided by computer control.

As it is now people cannot handle ground i.e. in a car and now you want to put them in a 360 area where not only will they crash in different directions but also fall out of the sky and kill more people??

Since there are no youtube vids yet here are some of the things they talked about.

 From the makers of Nascrap comes... Rocket Racing League. Yes, this guy straight up got an idea that since we'll be flying around that we'll also want to watch air racing and the first thing that popped in his head... :gasp: yes, let's strap a rocket to a plane.

What's wrong with Air Racing? :odd:

Besides, if we can fly instead of drive, my morning commute from home to work will be cut down from 10 minutes to 6! :p

Oh, I have nothing against Air Racing, but at least those have class with some races even using Vintage planes. This on the other hand is just moving Nascrap bull from the ground to air. As well as being flying bill boards... The only good thing that they CAN'T do in air racing if this happens is have red necks purposefully take out another plane because if they do then they both die.

As for you're proposal of airing it to work instead I got two questions for ya...

1. Where are you gonna park that thing?
2. Where are you going to land?

Two answers in one picture - right here:

Plenty of room. :D

Obviously, part of me was serious, but the vast majority was a joke. Would I bother to invest in air travel for short distances? No. Do I see it as a viable option? Not currently. Only time will tell, though.

Fuel. Licenses. Cost.

Those are the biggest limitation for "cheap" air travel... guys like Rutan got it right with their cheap, easy-to-fly and fuel efficient aircraft... these are planes that even novices cannot crash... but you don't see them in every garage... flying lessons cost money. Licenses cost money. Fuel costs money. Maintenance costs money. (hell... you could buy a Corvette for the price of some aircraft engines...)

Flying for the masses? I wouldn't hold my breath. Unless they mean ballooning... or maybe tethered commuter zeppelins... which might still cost too much per mile compared to buses to actually be worth considering.

Air-racing is fun to watch... but rocket races won't... too fast... too dangerous to fly at low levels... at least the current air-races, with dedicated prop-driven stunt/race planes, are slow enough to take place at near ground (errh... usually water) level, and spectators can still follow it.

@TB partly joking too. :p

Funny you say that because they did actually mention going back to the Hindenburg days (Minus the big ball of fire). They have a system that would work kinda like a submarine does, but air instead of water to land and take off vertically. They even went as far to say we'd have floating offices so if you'd need to take a business trip you just take they whole office with ya. :dopey:

Airships are more cost-effective than heavier-than-air craft, but you'd have to solve the wind problem... hmm... semi-lighter-than-air craft?

A floating or portable office would be nice... but kind of senseless, since most executives can carry their work with them quite easily with the advanced state of mobile electronics nowadays.

They should think further outside the box... personal flight is a dream of the 50's... what we should look at is ways that it can be made practical in the 21st century...

Yeah, that's the problem I've had throughout the years and in movies about big visions of the whole world looking drastically different. It's makes me wonder what's better and how it's realistic of an idea now or in the future. Unless... 💡 We have Necromongers come and clear out the planet first so we can reshape everything.

Anyway, yeah... I'm thinking with the floating office, ok... so, were talking the size of a Wraith battle Cruiser and two things...

1. Where the hell are you going to land it?
2. How the hell are you going to propel it much less power the office crap inside.
