Ok, it's late october, and I've got $100 spare bucks to my name. Christmas drained me hard - it drained my whole family. I decide, "Hey, why not indulge? Sell off a few more old games, and get a DFP!"
I gather the games, and get to the store. As I'm walking inside, I look at the display for pre-orders of GT4. I look at the games in my hand, and back at the display. Sudden epiphany.
"I need GT4, but I don't know if I'll have the money to buy it later. I should preorder now."
Setting the games down on the counter, I trade them in for an extra $30. The DFP was on sale, so I would have been able to get it for a clean $110. Then I remember my cousin...he wants GT4 so bad, but with bills and xmas, there's no way he can afford it until his tax return.
Moral crisis.
The clerk stares at me. "So, a DFP, and some cash down on GT4, right?"
I stare at my cash. DFP on shelf. GT4 display. Cash. DFP. GT4. Clerk seems annoyed at my silence.
"Scratch that. Gimme two full-paid pre-orders."
Release rolls around. My cousin is sitting in his room playing GT3 and looking forlorn.
"Yo Jay."
"Eh?"
"Catch."
GT4 lands in his lap. I've never seen a more relieved expression.
Rejoicing, endless thanks, and a twist...
"You know, dude...this is the single coolest thing anyone has done for me in a looong time. When I get my tax return, you're getting that DFP, wether you want it or not."
"Dude, no way...DFP's are like $150!!"
"Car insurance, rent, then I've got the rest to spend where it's needed. Why not splurge a little? $300 isn't THAT much."
"I love you, man..."
So in your face, fate! BOOYAH!!! The good guy prevails!!!
