Nick Heidfeld's manager has confirmed that the German will not contest the Brazilian grand prix in two weeks. Werner Heinz said Williams' German pilot - already out of action with headaches and neck problems - was bicycle training in Switzerland when he was struck by a motorcycle.

The timing of the subsequent injury, certainly, is coincidental, amid existing speculation that 'Quick Nick' has signed a 2007-2008 deal to switch to BMW. Williams' 2006 option on the Moenchengladbach-born driver expires on Thursday, the day he was scheduled to return to the cockpit for a Silverstone test. "Unfortunately, Nick's injuries mean he can not participate in the next formula one race," Heinz revealed.

Heidfeld is apparently suffering from a cracked shoulder bone, several dislocated fingers and grazes.

At present, the conspiracy theorists - who earlier enjoyed Juan Pablo Montoya's similarly iffy 'tennis' story - are having a field day with the news. One hypothesis is that Heidfeld's alleged 'injuries' may convince Sir Frank Williams to release the hapless German racer to Sauber-bound BMW an early as 2006.

Another theory is that the story is a cover for Williams' plans to further test potential candidates for a 2006 seat, in the event that Jenson Button stays at BAR.

Antonio Pizzonia has had a two-race turn, and 20-year-old Nico Rosberg's name is now attached to the story, even though the German is in the running for the GP2 title. Asked if any of the conspiracy theorists were right, technical director Sam Michael slammed: "Absolutely not."
Wow ... Nick isn't having a good time lately. So I guess Pizzonia will get another chance in the Williams car.

I think it's somewhat unfair to call someone who has a 200mph testing shunt, and then gets run off his bike by a suicide pilot (sorry, that's my phrase for motorcyclists), as "hapless", especially after the relativity of his performances and those of his team-mate.

Apparently BMW are "looking" at Villeneuve's contract. My information is that is has a $30m exit clause. Ouch! Pollock couldn't run a team, but he's fantastic as a driver manager!

I wouldn't be surprised if Nick was in a BMW next year. It all seems a bit logical really. And Williams are moving to cement their position with Nico Rosberg, who does now look like he's going to win GP2, and is therefore marketable. Kovaleinen's confirmed as Renault tester for 06, which presumably means Fisi's career has a year left to run.

Poor poor Nick, he is not having the best of luck really which is a shame because he would do well in the last couple of races i think, as for the conspiracy ideas they should really jus twait till the end of the season to start messing with driver's minds.

Well heres Pizzonias last big chance to make it back into F1, Montoya wont be smiling though...

If I was Nick I'd be happy to be the out of Williams, a sinking ship if there ever was one, to the much greener (and more interesting) prospects of BMW.

Pizzonia will blow it like he always does. Why they keep giving him a drive I don't know.

Webber must be killing himself. He wanted to get away from Jaguar and Pizzonia and look where he is now...in a car that is behind the Jaguar (RBR) and teamates (again) with Pizzonia.

I kinda feel sorry for Webber.

Yeah, this was the year Webber wanted to be racking up his first podiums, instead he's stuck developing a slower car. He just doesn't have any luck. :indiff:
