Hi,

Sorry if this isn't the right place to post this but it's starting to get really irritating. When racing at night on a Sony KDL W4000 the tv 'auto dims' which makes it very hard to see, I think it does this due to most of the screen being black.

Does anyone have the same problem?

Does anyone know how to turn off auto dimming?

thanks,

Consult your TV manual? Really.

Anyway for gaming, you need to turn off all your TV's extra gadgets anyway. Motionblur, Dynamic contrast, the lot.

You can turn that auto dim feature off, also turn the brightness up and if you are using the F1 or Red Bull, you still not be able to see anything, that's the point of LMS cars having lights.

Does that TV have a XMB?

My Sony Bravia does, but I don't know the product number.

if so go to system settings and then to ECO
there you can turn off the power save mode.
And if nesacerry the ambient sensor

Yeah, had the same problem and fixed it by going to ECO and turning of all of the power save modes, ambient too... And also, the HDMI cable has alot to say, I switched cables, from Belkin (gold plated) to a standard Sony HDMI cable and noticed an improved quality in picture... Colours became more natural and the light much better, could have been a bad cable though from Belkin, but the regular HDMI from Sony is good imo.

There is an adjustment is the options menu in GT5 to turn up the intensity for you TV, The default setting is 0EV. Try adjusting that and see if it helps any.

Which Red Bull are you talking about?

Red Bull has got lights.

You may want to check Sony's website for a firmware upgrade for your TV. My KDL-40S5100 had the same problem when dynamic contrast was enabled, but it was fixed after the firmware upgrade. Now I still get dynamic contrast, but it doesn't go pitch black on mainly dark scenes ... Also get better image quality and less HDMI sync problems.

Too dark regardless, the high beams aren't set to light the road far enough ahead for fast cars.

Best Solution: Use a computer monitor. Night racing even with brights off becomes incredibly easy.

Good Solution: Play around with the exposure and your TV settings.
