New enemies, new weapons, new camera, upgraded engine. Faster, harder, and free on Xbox Live. We've got the first screens and details.

As if Ninja Gaiden needed to get any better, Team Ninja's stellar action title is getting some renovations in early August. In conjunction with the Master Ninja Tournament, Tecmo is releasing Ninja Gaiden 1.1, downloadable over Xbox Live for free. All you need is a Live subscription, a copy of Ninja Gaiden, and the desire to kill again.

Ninja Gaiden 1.1 will be used for the second round of the Master Ninja Tournament, but can also be used offline without any need to ever touch the popular online tournament. Once downloaded, you'll need to start a brand new game to enjoy all of the improvements to Ninja Gaiden.

And oh those improvements. Check out everything Ninja Gaiden 1.1 has to offer:

New Enemies: As you can see in the latest screenshots, there are a few new, mammoth enemies added throughout the levels. There are no new levels, but just imagine some of those old areas now having all new, tougher baddies. And, from what we hear, there are more enemies than what we seen in the screens.

New Bosses: As if new enemies weren't enough, there will also be some new bosses. The story and structure of Ninja Gaiden will not change, so it's anyone's guess where these bosses may show up. They could replace old bosses or be added on top of previous boss battles. We don't know the particulars, but we can promise that they will be tougher than what you've previously faced. Oh crap.

New Weapons: There are three new weapons available in 1.1. From what we understand, they will likely be available in the shop during the course of the game, but it's possible that one or more of them may be hidden in the game or earned from defeating bosses. The Bo Staff is featured prominently in the new screens, but don't worry, we'll have info on all three new weapons soon enough.

Improved AI: Ninja Gaiden creator Tomonobu Itagaki wanted to add some extra challenge to an already difficult game, so the AI has been improved to make all enemies smarter. Expect an even greater challenge, no matter what difficulty setting you choose.

New Camera: Now we get into what makes Ninja Gaiden 1.1 a landmark Xbox Live download. Hearing the complaints of fans, Itagaki redid Gaiden's camera. You'll now have full 360 degree control of the camera. The camera will also be smarter, so you shouldn't have to worry about it being in too close or at the wrong angle when in a fight.

Action Engine: How do you improve Ninja Gaiden? Make it faster. Yes, you heard that right. When you download Ninja Gaiden 1.1, you'll get all of the above improvements, plus an upgraded engine that makes the action even faster. What will be faster? Everything. Ryu, the enemies, and most importantly the combat. All of it will come quicker requiring even greater reflexes. Think back to what it was like playing the "slow" version of Ninja Gaiden and imagine tossing shurikens while running along walls and battling four of those annoying brown ninjas at once. Now speed that up. Hear that sound? That's your brain about to explode.

Ninja Gaiden 1.1 will be available in early August for Xbox Live subscribers who own a copy of the original game. An exact date and details on the second round of the Master Ninja Tournament are forthcoming, but remember that there's absolutely no need to be a participant in the tournament in order to enjoy Ninja Gaiden 1.1.

We'll have more on Ninja Gaiden 1.1 and the Master Ninja Tournament very soon. And if you're wondering if this is it for Ninja Gaiden downloadable content, keep in mind that there is a third round of the Master Ninja Tournament still to come. Could we see Ninja Gaiden 1.2? We sure hope so.

 Yet another reason to get XBox live!! I will probably get it in late August/early September when I get my brother's room and internet jack.

My mind nearly exploded reading about that. Now all those whiners can actually pick up the game now that the camera is better.

old thread, i know.

after hearing about ninja gaiden black, i decided on catching up on the hurricane packs. i never beat them while i still had bb :( anyways, on hp1/mnt2, i just got done with the bone dragon and im not too far away from the return of the first fiend boss. in hp2/mnt3, im on the first stage where the huge green things and the sand beetles.

i just wish they would have made the arena large in hp2/mnt3 ... specially when the bad guys start getting ... huge.

I just rented this last night. :)
Great game, if you die three times in a row it lowers the difficulty. Thank goodness...lol.

this may contains ***SPOILERS****

Currently i'm having over 200hrs in Ninja Gaiden.. imo Ninja Gaiden black lacks a few things..(i rented it, i own Ninja Gaiden) like they cut out the succesive play mode (wich is like a new game +) the intercept is gone (read: its like having 75% cut off firepower in quake3) it was a great skillfull move.. anyways, you still follow? (doing my best on my english)
The Ninja Dog Mode is a funny mode, the ninja gets a pink ribbon on his arm and gets great support by Ayane... the enemies are really weak and the hits you get are minor personally i dont wanna play that way :) i started on normal and play much on hard/very hard.
Also a wooden sword can be bought wich is upgradeble, it cost alot but when its full power is reached it becomes the most powerfull weapon around! really cool looking also :) , the power of this great weapon was weaker-made in the hurricane packs, also in Ninja Gaiden Black..even more, they added a smoke bomb wich i havent seen, but cutted out a armlet (you wear these on you wrist) wich replenisht your health.
In other words the first title (Ninja Gaiden) was the best..but its imo there are also many pros thats for sure, and many ppl find the game difficult so ninja dog mode is the solution, the graphics where improved and several scenes where added (not fmv scenes but ingame scenes)
Ninja Giaden is really a great game, wich keep you greatly satisfied.

im personally enjoying NG:B.

intercept was only available in the 2 hurricane packs, and while yes, it makes it easier its not nescary. the succesive play was nice, but, only for collecting the scrabs. if you know where they are, its not really an issue and you can back track to all areas execpt 1 or 2.

i didnt like the unlaboured flawlessness, you needed to have less than 1/3 of your life bar for it to be at its strongst. im good, but, not that good. id rather have the stage 3 diablhro(sp) for a heavy weapons. the level 3 lunar breaks walls though.

but cutted out a armlet (you wear these on you wrist) wich replenisht your health.

that was nice, but, only nescary if you wanted to use the kitesu. but, thats been adjusted now as well. instead of constintly draining your health, it only drains when you stand idle too long or attack the air. hmm. but, there are new armlets added. for instance, one increasees the strenght of kicks and another decreases the amount of time to chagre ultimate attacks. i like that last one :D

moving on, ive not had a chance to try the new missions since ive not finished my first run through.

lvl3 lunar made some of the 60 fiend challenges quite easy. i finished the 60 purple fiend challege with 70 seconds left with the lvl3 daiblhro last night though :D

there other things i could add, but, youd have to have played the first to death to know the diference. i must say though, i really like the new save points :D

more later when i get to the new missions.

fwiw - the armlet the regenerates your health is in the game, but, not in the normal game and ive only noticed it in one mission though. that was against one of the acicent greater fiends added in one of the last hurricane pack.

it seems team ninjas moto is "making life diffcult through bad camera work and minor problems adding up"

the missions are hard, cheap, and range from easy to "wtf just happened?!" i really like the mission about fighting the huge huge green beasts in a sewer thats barely big enough to fit the beast ... well, thats a [blinks] moment.

great game, it was probably one of the best I have EVER played.
I hated the ghost fish though, bastards...
