Some how, if the typical user doesn't know, it's ok? If Nintendo makes a device and it only does half of what it was alluded to do, it's ok because no one will know? That's not innovation Nintendo likes to tout the Wii as.

The dedicated gamer crowd? Pttth. No one gives a **** about them anymore. It's all about the Mainstream Gamer now! You know, those people who don't care that the Wii Remote doesn't do 1:1 motion control? Nor care about great story telling, game play, or high definition graphics? Just more and more mini games... that's all you need! Produce more white plastic and they'll snatch that **** up like candy! Dedicated gamers? Those who buy Nintendo products without question and who love Nintendo franchises? Naaah...

I'd be delighted if you could provide evidence that these "lack of control" complaints have come from anywhere but the dedicated gamer crowd. If they're having fun, people won't care what the Wiimote can't do.
Does my dad count? He has complaints along the lines of, "I did the thing but it didn't do the thing," but then he also says Wii Sports Bowling uses too many buttons.

The MotionPlus thing isn't all bad, because there are games that don't require it and are enjoyable, but the problem is that most of them aren't the main gamer's game.

For example, I have rented Endless Ocean. I am an aquarium hobbyist and love the ocean and sea life. It's educational and I am enjoying it immensely. The controls are basically point and click though and doesn't really require the Wii motion controls. MotionPlus will make no difference here. Any standard control configuration would work just as well (actually probably better). Most of the mini-games are point and click.

So, yeah the casual mini-game players won't notice, but when you have games the core gamer cares about using a shake as your main attack it feels almost dumbed down.

And of course the topic of this thread is E3, and as far as Nintendo at E3 was concerned, they promised something the core gamer would love and unless they meant GTA on the DS they were way off. And if they did mean GTA on the DS Nintendo should have known that people were looking for something on the tentpole system, the Wii. Whatever Nintendo was up to at E3 their presentation combined with their statements afterward show that they are completely misjudging, or ignoring, their core at the moment.

And then combine the MotionPlus thing and you have core gamers saying, "Wait, Red Steel sucked because the Wii didn't have the proper control setup?"

It seems to me that if Nintendo hasn't changed their focus then they need to get a new PR team. And it isn't just Nintendo, Sony contradicted themselves and ran in circles with their statements until Phil Harrison left. Perhaps Nintendo needs to gag Reggie in pre-expo comments?

I don't know, from what I am hearing PAX may be more enjoyable than E3, as a whole. And as it is truly a gamers expo I wonder if Nintendo won't actually give us something big there. I wonder if everyone won't focus on something bigger there.

Which is hardly a good thing in the grand scheme of things for Nintendo.
