It's a good car. You might want to move this to the Nissan forum though. You're much more likely to get responses there.

You also might want to read some threads over at 240sxforums.com and zilvia.net. They should be able to answer any questions you have. Just be sure to do a search before creating a thread over there. On both forums, they'll rip you a new one if you ask a question like "Is a 240sx a good car?"

Anyway, I just figured I'd give you a heads up. Good luck with your search.

Are 240's(89) considered S13's?

Yes.

Quick Rundown:
S13 by itself=Coupe body with CA18
RS13=Hathback body with CA18
PS13=Coupe body with SR20
RPS13=Hatchback body with SR20
KPS13=Coupe w/HICAS and SR20
KRPS13=Hatchback w/HICAS and SR20
HS13=Coupe with KA24E
RHS13=Hatchback with KA24E
MS13=Coupe with KA24DE
RMS13=Hatchback with KA24DE
KRMS13=Hatchback w/HICAS and KA24DE

1989-1993 (1995ish-1998 180sx) = S13
1995-1998=S14
1999-200?=S15

you are god

If possible, try to get a 91 240SX or a later model, since it comes with the KA24, as opposed to the weaker engine on the 89 and 90 models. This is all irrelivent if you are planning to do an engine swap though, whereas the earlier models could save you some money.

I was thinking of buying a 240SX a few months ago, but decided against it due to the ridiculous insurance rates in Ontario (I could have been looking at paying over $5,000 a year for insurance. I can barely afford that, but I'm not giving all my money to those crooks.) As far as affordable rear wheel drive cars go, the 240SX is as good as it gets. Just make sure you can afford the insurance, since rates are fairly high everywhere in Canada (but especially in Ontario).

Actually, it comes with the KA24DE, as opposed to the earlier KA24E. The DE is DOHC, and is good for about 25HP over the E.

Rather than crooks, I prefer to think of the insurance industry, who, god forbid, should pay a claim, as banks. They take money in fairly frequently, and that's it.

Still, it really sucks the way they price according to Zip code. I live in a quite nice neighborhood, but I share a zip with downtown Hollywood, so my family pays out the ass for insurance. We're paying like 5500 a year for my 240 alone! And we got quotes from other companies, not much difference.

Check www.intellichoice.com.
You can put in the mileage that's on the car you want to buy, the options, etc. and it will kick out the "fair market" price for you. You can also check some of the 240 sites and they should be able to tell you the common trouble areas and recalls for the model you are looking at.

$6,500 for a NEON??? That's just insane....

This might be a late response, but yes its a good car. I bought mine a couple months ago with 150k Miles. Its a 1989 240sx coupe. I personally love the car. It takes turns very well for an old car and its comfortable to drive. It's my first car...I'm planning to get the sr20det s13 engine before I hit college, but we'll see what happens, I'll keep you guys updated if you guys care... :)
