Nissan is set to try and set a new record at the Goodwood festival of speed, by driving in reverse up the hill climb at upto 90mph. This is something any Leaf owner can do with a software change I believe.
Nissan will also be setting another record by by driving the course on 2 wheels only in a Juke.

Cool stunts.

The Leaf NISMO RC will also be on display at the festival.

I'm not so much amazed that the Leaf will do 90 in reverse as I am that someone's going to attempt to control something steered with the rear wheels at that that speed...

Famine in a Skyline aside, of course.

It's me that's doing it*.

*It's not really, but any attendee of UKGTP13 would be unsurprised if it were.

Is the Leaf speed limited in reverse? Because with that gearbox, the car should be able to go just as fast in reverse as in drive. It's a similar thing with some of those CVT cars.

Unless, of course, the Leaf is incapable of hitting 90 in any direction...

That would do for an epic handbrake turn.. or a rollover. :dopey:

The reason Nissan went for the record is because the Leaf can do it just by removing the limiter.
......
The Juke did create a record for 2 wheel driving also.

Driving at 90mph in reverse doesn't make the Leaf any less boring, though, and driving on two wheels isn't going to make the Juke any less fugly. Good for Nissan if they can claim a record or two, but, yeah. Ugly and boring, still.

Didnt see the Leaf today so I dunno if its going it tomorrow maybe. Watching the Juke go by on 2 wheels was kinda surreal though!

It cracks me up that Nissan is trying to convince the world that the Juke is actually a hip and cool car through coming up with those three horrendous paint jobs, driving it on two wheels, and naming it the "Juke".

I think all but the posiest of posers will look right through the marketing and see that the Juke is just a really, really ugly crossover.

Wouldn't they want to put some mad camber on that Juke?

Unless they go absolutely insane (45 degrees?) with the camber, I doubt it would help. The driver is trying to balance the car on the curve between the sidewall and the tread. Playing with the camber could only change the balance point.

The Juke is the best style crossover there is. And Nissan have done a reasonable job of promoting it.
It deserves some success.
I don't like these type of vehicles, but I would have a Juke. It's good value.
The interior is mostly garish and naff, but most cheap car interiors are. It could all be sprayed black or stripped out and used for rugged function. Or I suppose you could spend money on it and cover all areas in leather or high quality materials in reasonable tones.

I love the styling on the Juke.

It goes with my "I Heart Chtulu" T-shirt.

But seriously, it's an interesting design. More personality than a lot of the personality-less vehicles in the Crossover category. And it's not like the Mini Countryman, which tries to appear to be something it's not, or the Outlander Sport / ASX, which has the Evolution goatee from hell... or the Chevrolet Spark/Beat, which has a trollface plastered over the front of what is an otherwise stylish car...

The Juke is designed as the Juke. All the elements fit. Nothing has been cut down or stretched to fit from other cars in the range. They're not in the traditional places, but nobody said cars have to look anthropomorphic all the time...

The Juke is also the fastest selling Nissan ever in the UK at least, so it's quite successful.

Funny mentioning the "hip and cool" thing too, since every one of the guys I know around my age (mid to late 20s) who've driven it absolutely love it. Ditto the CR-Z actually, the other car people who've never driven it hate.

I think the Leaf's backwards run was cancelled for some administrative reason in the end. Nissan has said they'll give it another try when time allows.

I call it the Nissan Joke.

Genius. Did you come up with that one yourself?

I think I've seen one Juke on the road. And I haven't heard good about CR-Zs besides from Honda fanboys.

One of our neighbours has a Puke. Good heavens, it's an unfortunate looking thing. It's the only car I've ever seen visually inspired by Harvey Price.

The other day, apropos of nothing, my wife told me Nissan had sold a million Squishsquashes. So I started pointing them out to her on the roads, as a joke, going "There's a million of them". Problem is now we can't stop seeing them - they're bloody everywhere.

I've only seen 3 Pukes, ever.

I've seen two in total. Perhaps it's a UK thing?

Squishsquashes are everywhere. I went to pick my daughter up from school just now and there were two in one car park and one in the other.

Though we do live near their UK base at Sunderland. Might explain a few things.

Even in this rural-ish part of London there's plenty of them all around. It's because they would seem to do everything for a family. And everybody tries rivalling it but is unable to. I know the Skoda Yeti to be a better car, but I've seen...next to none here. Also the correct name for the car is 'Cashcow'.

In case anyone hadn't seen it, Terry Grant achieved the record by driving the entire length - 1.16 miles - of the Goodwood hill on two wheels.

And yes, Jukes are everywhere here.

That's part of it. The NE is full of Nissans. Loads of Jukes in Newcastle. I quite like how they look. It's not pretty for sure but it's interesting, and god knows the UK Nissan range needs some interesting designs since they stopped selling the Cube again.

And it's main competitor is the Countryman. Given the choice of MINI "needlessly ugly" and Nissan "at least they put some thought into it" I'll have the Juke.

The QashQard is one of Nissan's biggest selling models ever in the UK, to my knowledge. If not the biggest. It's in the UK top ten for a start which is a feat never achieved by any Almera that it replaced.

theotherspongey - I might just have been sarcastic before so don't feel too proud ;)

Eric - Have a look at more or less any UK road test of the CR-Z. Whilst none have been outright glowing, none have described it as anything less than a pretty good car either. Seems to be another culture thing where U.S. reviewers won't get out of bed for anything less than 200bhp.
