Nissans answer to Group B Rally,(I think anyhow.) Group A...

Not developed for Group B. It was developed for Group A (A8 class), and it entered selected WRC rounds in 1991 and 1992, with next to no succes. They then entered a FWD version in the A7 class with more succes, most notably with Alister McRae winning the British Rally Championship in 1995 (same year as his older brother Colin won the WRC title)

Just thought I'd provide the correct information :)

Thanks. I knew it was made for some kind or racing but never saw real action.

My brother had one of these, 15k of receipts with it from parts etc, had 450+ bhp needless to say it was crazy fast.

Cool car as it's not too common so you can surprise a hell of alot of people with it!

Was written off in the end, shame really but that's youth and powerful cars for you.

Yes please! I remeber this car from GT2
I just popped in GT2 to take it for a spin. Shoot. I would be appreciative of PD adding it in using GT2 assets. then I could be happy for any missing car using old assets. GT2 cars looked alot better than a PS1 could render them in.

I tried to buy a GTiR from canada but it fell through. also its super illegal to have one in the us.

You sure about that? I remember seeing one in Florida when I lived down there I would say close to 10 years ago. Or you could buy a 91-92 Sentra SE-R and do an engine swap and there you go.

I thought this car was in GT1 but not GT2.... Anyway, this car's omission from every GT game post the PSOne is a travesty. A real turbo all-wheel-drive pocket rocket from Japan before the Impreza and Lancer made such a thing 'mainstream'.

It should be noted that this was not due to a lack of performance per se. The car was brand new and just starting to be developed at competition level. No new Works rally team expects immediate blinding success - although the story is that Nissan did - and therein lies some dishonour - which is one theory why it was quietly swept under the historical rug as the GT franchise grew...

It should also be noted that the GTI-R finished 1st and 2nd in the WRC Group N (N4), aka "Production" class, Championship in 1992.

Sadly Nissan pulled the plug on the GTI-R before any "evolutions" could be realised, and they've never had a direct WRX/EVO contender.

Although now 20+ years old and less than 15k in total produced (with probably half of that surviving now, and half again actually running) it still enjoys dedicated and active owners clubs around the world.

It is a unique part of Nissan's history and deserves to be (re)included in Gran Turismo!

Had to sign up here... i play gt2 on my Note3 with a PS3 Controller (forced Analog Steering - Upgrade) sometimes, but give me a GTiR in GT6 and id buy a 2nd G27 right now for multiplayer cause i would find it hard to stop...

old GT2 game-guides suggested the Red used GTiR as your starting car and half the game is easily beatable with stage 3 turbo + intercooler, Rally on tahiti road was classic...

Bring us a Rally pack with this Beast and "Tahiti Rd" from gt1 & gt2...

Quotes from Polyphony Digital's Gran Turismo:

Gran Turismo 2 (US Version)

The GTI-R (RNN14) was a 3-door hatchback of the fourth generation Pulsar (N14) that was spawned by a full model change in 1990.
Based on the 2.0 litre inline 4-cylinder DOHC turbo SR20DET engine, the power unit boasts specifications of 230hp at 6400rpm and 210lb/ft at 4800rpm thanks to alterations to the 4-butterfly-throttle intake and exhaust mechanisms.
The body also underwent substantial changes with large spoilers being added to the front and rear, and a big air intake on the hood.
The drive produced is truly staggering, and the compact body accelerates as if it were being pulled by some huge force. The car really hugs the roads thanks to the four-wheel-drive, but as it is front-heavy, understeer can be a problem unless care is taken.
Because of its impressive driving capability on the streets, it maintains a faithful following among the general public.

Gran Turismo 2 (UK Version)
In Japan, it's called the Pulsar, and in Europe it's called the Sunny. We'll refer to this GTI-R car as the Pulsar though, because it's a bit of a star. By 1990, this 3-door hatchback was in its 4th generation, firmly establishing itself as a dull but dependable family runabout.
The mad GTI-R changed all that beyond recognition. This particular Pulsars body sports large spoilers front and rear and a large air intake for the turbocharger intercoller on the bonnet. Yep, the 2-litre DOHC powerplant has a turbo. each of its four cylinders has a 4-butterfly throttle intake and exhaust mechanisms that work to help produce 227bhp at 6400rpm and 210lbft of torque at 4800rpm.
Power is sent through the 5-speed manual gearbox to a 4WD system, incorporating a centre differential and viscous lsds. On the road the GTI-R flies up to 60mph in a very rapid 5.4 seconds, then the needle edges iuts way to around 144mph.
If you need to hit the brakes, rest assured that the heavy duty ventilated discs up front and solids at the rear are worked by an ABS system.
This very impressive driving capability puts the GTI-R on the same level as some serious rally-bred machinery such as the Ford Escort Cosworth and the Lancia Delta Integrale - cult cars each one.
Sitting on its lowered and stiffened suspension - with 14" alloy wheels and low profile 195/55 tyres - the Pulsar GTI-R boasts fantastic grip and traction for such a fast, small, lightweight car. The front tends to be a little nose-heavy, resulting in a handling setup for mild, predictable understeer through the twisty bits, but feather the throttle, correct the steering here and there as the back end drifts round and you can take the Pulsar GTI-R (and four other people if you wish) for a laugh-a-minute drive.

Mine has a Big Front-Mounted InterCooler, 16 psi up from stock 10.5 (bleed valve), Apexi PoD Filter, Bosch Fuel Pump & Adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator set to 15% higher then Stock... + a Strut-bar... Stock turbo is bigger then any silvia/s14 turbos...
+ Exedy Heavy Duty Clutch (50% more clamping Force over stock 600kg unit)

did < 12 sec 400m runs with stock wheels... wheelspin going into gear 1st-2nd & 3rd...

SR20DET (54C version) is Built Tough...

GTiR / RNN14 deserves respect as 4wd turbo SR20DET Rocket-hatch...

btw the real Red-line is 7500rpm, i popped off a rocker arm once while dropping to 2nd gear to uh... REGAIN Grip in a wet corner saw it hit 7800rpm, hear change... running on 3/4 Cyl... no damage though... i just replaced one missing shim and that cylinder worked again...
Even the road models are constant 4wd 50-50 Torque spilt, Diff in rear same as Rally so 3 wheel tyre marks when you drop the clutch at 5k rpm or more...
Rally model gets 1.5 way Front diff that i plan to get one day...

A guy here at my work has one of these thing. His is more of a show n shine car. spent thousands on it, it is nice looking. However i would rather have a fire breathing sleeper if it was my choice. But hey we all have our own opinion.

Would love to have this underrated, undiscovered gem of a car in a PS4/PS5 title.

Best MOTORing tested the Pulsar GTi-R among its 5–number brethren (compact cars under 2000cc and set dimensions), and it achieved the second best 0–400m dash time among other established and better known sports cars such as the FC RX-7, MR2, and Civic, losing out only to the AWD Galant VR-4. In the handling test consisting of a 3/4 turn and a slalom, the Pulsar attained the best overall time. Lastly, in a reverse grid race based on price, the Pulsar was able to start on 2nd position, being the secoond cheapest among the tested cars, and absolutely ran away towards an easy victory.

All this, plus the historical merits of the car, make this car a must–have in my opinion in GT7 if it is to be a "combination of the past, present, and future." I would love to have this car lurking around a used car dealership one day to possibly start the game with.

This should have been in all GT games. What happened?

Why does GT2 have so many unique JDM vehicles that were left out of later games?
