Their quote from Facebook:

Nissan will be launching an exciting breakthrough in motorsports innovation. 13/03/12

All we have for now is this teaser:

My take: I brightened up the photo a little in photoshop and it looks to me like a single seater formula style car. You can make out what looks like a drivers helmet, the tops of the side mirrors and the back part of the car. Should be exciting. :)

That looks like the Deltawing (which still doesn't haven't have a engine supplier named)...

Deltawing isn't that shape anymore since it was converted for LeMans specs.

Unless Nissan have created a Deltawing championship of some sort.

   can you enlighten us what is the shape of the Delta wing le mans specs?

the engine for Lemans version of the car is a 1.6 turbocharged 4 cyl, doesn't nissan make something like that?

It's rumored to be a Chevy engine. As far as I know, Nissan only provides v8s for P2 teams.

If Nissan did provide a v8, then the delta wing project be for nothing.

Well since they changed the look of the car to what GTPorsche posted above, maybe Nissan bought the rights to the old design?

It won't be a V8. If it is, it needs to be a very revolutionary one, because the car is supposed to have half the power and consume half the fuel while at the same time lapping as quick as a regular prototype.

There's no old and new design, the Deltawing is altogether a unique design, owned by Ben Bowlby's company.

The only difference between the Indy one and the LM one regards the headlights and whatever other aerodynamical fine tuning only the trained eye will see.

Cockpit area is wider on the LM as well. That right there as small of a change, is a big airflow adjustment.

^^^you are right, of course. The AMR-One tube becoming part of the structure is a major difference from the single seater originally designed for Indycar racing.

EDIT: It's TUB .... corrected now :D

The Deltawing is a low HP car. Has only 300HP, I think the motor is a I-4 Turbochardged Engine. It is suppose to be able to hang with High powered cars. Low Downforce is one of its perks. I know www.jalopnik.com has more info.

Just for clarification, the current iteration of the car IS a 1.6l I4 engine, I'm not sure if the original Indy version of the car was powered by a GM motor or v8 of some sort but it seems highly unlikely considering it's always been a very low power low weight design... The changes between the Indy and Lemans versions seems to be mostly aerodynamic tweaking and rule based changes (like the second seat). The pic Nissan has used does look more like the older version though.

Guys head over to Mulsannes corner, it's stated that the powerplant is still likely to be a four banger. But new evidence suggests that it's not chevy.

Id link it, but I'm on my IPhone on a bus.

Edit: Thank you kind sir.👍
