Yes, I'm still alive.

Sold my sputtering and rusting G35 coupe to some kid with a COVID stimulus check back in July 2020 for $2,000 CAD. Rest in peace G35, you will be missed. Let's get some F's in chat for her:

Anyways - I ended up buying a fully loaded 2016 Golf R instead. Manual transmission with only 19,500KMs on her in Deep Black Pearl. She has navigation, Carplay, adaptive suspension, and 19 inch Pretoria wheels. I spent about three months trying to find the perfect spec car. I finally found it on FB Marketplace in of all places and you bet it was sold to yours truly the day after it was posted.

Here she is the day she walked up to my driveway. Ain't she pretty?:

She came with the front fully PPF'd, Stage 3 Daily clutch, P3 gauge, and fully tinted. Seller was having a baby so he needed money fast and I therefore got a good deal.

Took her for a service and they noticed that the o2 sensor had gone bad so that was replaced under warranty.

First mod was to get rid of that "R-Line" badge the previous seller had on the car and replace it with a proper R badge:

Next was to get rid of those peasant-spec halogen tail lights and side markers for a set of Euro LEDs and sequential mirror lights from Aliexpress:

Although this car was clearly stored during the winter, its my only car so I need it to drive year round. I wash it once every two weeks so that should help combat rust, and I refuse to leave the house when there's salt on the streets. Drove across town to grab these Audi wheels off a B6 S4 for winter tires:

During the wheel change though, I noticed the brake wear sensor had sheared off after the previous owner put the stock suspension back in from having bags . Cost me $300 to fix at the dealer - not nice at all

Next was some mods to make it look good. Maxton design sells a spoiler extension for $250 CAD. No way in hell am I paying that. Bought a rep off Aliexpress and it looks beautiful:

Next were some OEM mods. I installed some rear lower control arm aero covers from the MK8 Golf to help with fuel economy. I also noticed a significant improvement in downforce in the rear. The previous owner changed the battery to an Energizer AEM battery which is bigger than OEM. That meant that the battery didn't have any form of protection. Went on Aliexpress and bought a SAIC VW China OEM battery cover. Much better:

While I was at it, I got a windshield washer cap from a Skoda that is also a funnel. Ain't this cool?

That funnel is super rad. Which Skoda did it come off? Is it a direct fit on the 7? If so it should fit our 8V A3 as well.

I got it new from an eBay seller in Czech Republic. Its a direct fit but a little tight so you might benefit from using a screwdriver or pick to stretch it around the tube. Here's the part number:

Decided to sew on a steering wheel wrap last week - the alcantara sure helps in the winter when there's no heated steering wheel!

Had a huge car day yesterday and today.

Went to VW yesterday and had engine oil, Haldex, and brake fluid all changed.
Today I got General G-Max RS installed this morning and was told that 3 of my 4 wheels were bent, even though the one wheel was supposedly repaired. Not sure if I should keep driving on them or buy a new set of wheels. Since I just got the tires, I'd want to stay at 19" - not sure if the aftermarket wheels are any stronger than the Prets though. Here is a video of the one that was repaired (which is apparently the worst one):


In terms of the tires, they are actually really comfy and nice! They grip well, have good sidewalls, and are quiet.

Then I got Unitronic Stage 1. I now understand what they mean by "this is what it should have come like from the factory". The engine and gas pedal are so much smoother, providing a comfortable ride. Looks like the tune adds a maximum +6 PSI in boost over stock as per my P3 gauge. The car isn't insanely faster, but definitely noticable. $600 well spent, but not worth a penny more.

Finally went to for an alignment. Rear toe was way out (0.6 on the rear left and 0.3 on the rear right) so it was dialed back in.

I definitely can at around 70 kph, but not the other two bent wheels. Not sure if its repairable though, or if I have to buy a new wheel for like $900.
