What is everyone's view regarding nitrous? On the one hand, it takes away from the purity of the game as far as benchmarks are concerned. On the other hand, it comes in quite useful when trying to tackle some of those 200 pt A-spec races. This go around, I'm going to do my best not to use it (but I will be tempted).

The only time I used it was in one of Suzuki races when I was against those GSX-Rs. Oh and when I was going for top speed with a 88C-V

Hi Flynn. I'm not familiar with St. Ann is that near St. Louis or St. Genevieve? When I first started GT4 nitrous was almost a must buy part. Now days I rarely even buy it or use it on cars that I already mounted it on. Once you get to a certain point of tunning, you don't need it to defeat the AI cars at all.

I looked at a map, now I know where St. Ann is. :)

When I first got GT4 many, many years ago. I put nitrous on everything I could. Nowadays I only use it to try and get a top speed out of the race cars on the top speed test and never ever use it in racing. In the long run I found it a bit of a waste and most of the time never used it anyway whilst I was racing due to the fact that I forgot about it once I hit the track.

Never bought it and I just started to beat my first gran turismo game, GT4. Well um... I dont plan on beating it, I just sell lots of toyotas lol. I used to play forza befor my xbox broke, and Im broke so I picked up GT4 for 4.99.

Like has been said, I like using it for challenge races that would otherwise be nigh impossible: the aforementioned Suzuki concepts, some of the other manufacturer races with more homologated entries, even some of the special conditions races. It's up to you, but usually, there is some sort of point ringer for each class of competition that will challenge the more capable machines for high rewards.

I don't think I ever used it much. I'm sort of a purist and liked to keep the cars as close to real life as possible. But I did have to overpower the competition from time to time with HP. Remember one of my favorite moments was after running in a few of ABud's long race series I found that I could win the Formula GT series running in the stock F1. I had improved that much during all those long races that GTPLMS and SuperGT featured.

I have, I believe, equipped only one car with it. Personally I don't use it. It is possible to hit 300 mph without it, I've done it, and it isn't really necessary in any race Suzuki Concepts included.

No major sanctioning body outside of drag racing allows it.

I understand it's necessary to use nitrous to hit 111,813 A-Spec points, which is why I've abandoned that pursuit. People have claimed to hit 100,000 without nitrous, and that's a worthwhile pursuit. I haven't done that yet, and likely never will, but I'm trying.

Really? I'm not challenging you, but I would like you to name one race where nitrous is necessary for 200 pts as an example. Just curious. :)

Off the top of my head, no, I'm afraid I cannot name any particular race. I would refer you to the 200 A-Spec subforum for that, though.

In any case, nitrous is required for max A-Spec points (albeit somewhat less than 200, usually) in several of the manufacturers' one-make races. The general trend is to put several thousand miles on the car to reduce horsepower to the minimum, load it up with 200 ballast and slap N1's on the front. Then use nitrous, dirty driving, corner cutting, wallriding and generally whatever it takes to overcome this massive handicap you've imposed on yourself. Not exactly my cup of tea. Don't get me wrong, it still requires a tremendous amount of driving skill to hit max A-Spec points, and kudos to those who have done it. It's just something I don't care to do myself.

Edit: Post #67 in the General Discussion thread in the 200 A-Spec forum sums it up nicely: nitrous plus dirty driving required for 200 pts in the Roadster 4-Hour enduro.

Does not sound like fun. :(

I'm running an A-spec only game.

I hardly ever used it, matter of fact I never equipped to the majority of cars I drove in GT4. Nitrous seems cheaty to me during sim races since the Ai doesn't use it.

I remember equipping it finally on some LM car for the GT All Stars. I figured if the Ai can punt and slam me all they want (which is cheating) so that I fall behind, I need to have some sort of a tool to get my car back up where the action is.

I equip it to just about all of my cars but almost never use it. Just fit it and ignore it, it's only 5 grand and doesn't need to be pulled out before a race like the chip or stage 1 turbo.
90% of the time it's used for 400m drag racing.
