No Games Will Run

Alright guys, im posting this for a friend. He recently gut a new graphics card, so he reformated his computer, and installed the card. Everything was running perfeclty, but it would not turn on most game like NFS:UND2, Battlefield 2, FEAR, COD2, and so on. Some other games work, like FIFA 2006.

You press the icon for the game to boot up, it looks like it going to turn on, and then it disapeers. If you open up task manager, the file just disapeers too. We have no idea what is going on. Maybe he is missing some kind of drivers? I really dont know, he is running 5.8 Catalyst drivers. Is there anything you need to change in the Windows? Before he had a GEFORCE 4MX, and it ran all games, but after several formats, this card is still not working.

His Specs:
Windows XP Proffesional SP2
2.0ghz Pentium 4
512mb Ram
ATI X700 PRO
60GB Hardrive at 7200RPM
300W Power Supply

Thanks, we really want to get this problem solved.

Wouldnt the computer turn off? But the minumum for this card is 300W.........
300W you have powers EVERYTHING in your PC, not just the graphics card.

I don't think the PC would just turn off, the card would just run at a lower speed to the power avalible to it.

Correct me if I'm wrong guys, I just glimped at this somewhere. ;)

Hmmmmm anything else may be wrong?

My friend and i are going to go buy a new power supply, probably a 400W or 450W, we will just have to see i guess. If something we will return it.

The card doesn't even take up 100W.

The power supply powers everything in your computer. Everything uses a certain ammount of watts. If you don't have enough watts to power something, it work work. That's why a 300W PS is the minimum requirement.

Even if your PSU is rated at 300W, they never reach that, and if they do it'll only be intermittently.

Or maybe that 300W PSU just isn't enough to power the X700...
Corrent.

Just about every new video card (IE last year) requires a 350W PSU to work properly. I don't know the specifics as to why they need what they need, but if you don't have a PSU at or beyond the minimum requirements the card will not work correctly.
