Haven't seen this posted yet, but it doesn't look good if your planning on getting GT4 prologue. Still whats logitech gonna do if this is true & they want to shift wheels for xmas?

I'll be waiting for GT4 : Full :p anyway

Hopes that Polyphony's pre-Christmas demo racing treat would hit the US and Europe have been dashed by SCEE

17:40 Polyphony Digital's Gran Turismo 4 Prologue, announced at last week's Tokyo Motor Show, will never see the light of day outside of Japan, we can exclusively reveal.
The demo disc is intended as a pre-Christmas treat for patient Gran Tursimo fans who must now wait until next Spring for the final version of Kazunori Yamauchi's stunning new PS2 racer.

It was hoped that the US and Europe, which must also wait until 2004 for the full game, would also have a chance to sample the cut down delights of the Prologue version (full details of which can be found here), but today SCEE was the bearer of bad news.

"We can confirm that GT4: Prologue will be a sneak preview disc released solely for the Japanese market in time for their holiday season," a SCEE spokesperson informed us.

"GT4 has already received great anticipation from gamers, and we are very much looking forward to adding the finished GT4 release to our exclusive software portfolio for the PS2 next year."

Frustration then for western PS2 fans, desperate for Polyphony's unsurpassed brand of racing thrills before the year is out, but with the full release expected in early 2004, you only have to hang on just a little longer. And you know it's going to be worth the wait...

For me thats a good thing, if GT4 Prolouge came out I wouldn't want to get it, I'd want to getthefull version of GT4 and be suprised by everything, if GT4 P came out I'd still be tempted to get it though.
 
That's what a mod chip and importing the game is for :)

I wasn't gonna get it either way. I don't wanna spoil the game by playing a little snippet of it. I'd rather get hit with the full game at once. It would be more enjoyable to me that way.

Man, why does the US keep getting screwed by PD? I know you Europeans and Aussies, are gonna complain, too, but at leas you guys got the Concept games, we got nothing.

To save money. Here's why.

PD is owned by Sony. Sony wants people to illegally modify their PS2's. Illegally moding your PS2 voids the warranty. Sony is fixing PS2's with disc read error's for free, but you have to pressure them sometimes, to avoid lawsuits, and a product recall. Voiding the warranty means you have to pay for the repairs. Fixing all the PS2's will cost more money than Sony could make selling GT4 Prolouge in the US, it's about $120,000,000.00 using a high estimate to reapir all the PS2s in US alone. The combined total for selling GT4 Prologue and Concept combined may make Sony about $25,000,000.00 in the US.

OK, I could be wrong, and no, there are no links to support this, it's all speculation.

Sony just announced they will layoff 25,000 people, I think, in the next three years, so they are hurting financially.
 
FYI according to sony's Hong Kong website, GT4 Prologue will be released in Japan, as well as in Hong Kong and Taiwan on 12/4... the HK and taiwan versions will be in Chinese... thats not really good news for the North American and European fans, but just thought you might like to know...
 
So, dear friends from Japan, all of you that have access to an ftp servers, please be so kind and post an iso image of the game DVD as soon as it released and place and url somewhere. GT community will be greatefull untill it's death:) .
 
So far only game I'd mod my PS2 for would be the Japanese version of Initial D, I've heard US version had crappy dubbing and diff music & if its released in Europe it will probs be same as US one :(

Meanwhile I'll pray for GT4 to be the best yet :) (With races that I don't fall asleep on hehe)

Umm, we don't have Initial D on PS2 in US.

I think that is a bit of a stretch in logic. First off, the warranty of the PS2 is only 1 year. I'm sure that a great majority of the PS2's owned in the US are past warranty already. Second, most PS2's already last longer than the one year of the warranty coverage. I bought my first in 2001 and gave it to a friend last year. Then I bought another in 2002 and it is still working great (warranty is expired). I'm not saying you are wrong, I merely mean that IMO Sony is probably not that worried about warranty coverages on PS2's.
 
ok i guess this's prob a lil off the topic...

but how much would it cost to mod the ps2?

is it easy to mod it urself or should i just take it to a shop?

Mod chip I was looking at had around 27 wires, so I would've thought you'd need to be very good at soldering/be an electrician really. I've heard you can get solder free ones but I don't think they work as well/have as many features.
 
Thanks for the lik-sang link, I emailed them a few days ago to see if that is the JP version and not the version for Asian PS2s, and they said it's just the Asian cover :D
 
If you're really interested, you can get this thing called a Slide Card. What it dies is allows you to open the CD drive without the PS2 knowing it, so you can use a swap magic disc and swap in the import disc, and have it run. However, the Slide Card can eventually wear out the drive motor.

The real, but slightly more expensive, solution is a new PS2 top plate. It actually replaces th ewhole shell of the PS2, and has a hinged top to allow you to put discs in and out to fool the PS2, and the drive still works normally for normal use. A nice benifit is that you can get the replacement shells in white and blue, to have a personalized PS2.

You're missing the point, so I'll explain it better for you. It doesn't matter when the warranty is up. A design flaw is a design flaw and if enough people complain, they could have the product recalled and have the manufacture of that item repair it at now cost to the owner. Sony is now fixing all "DISC READ ERROR" problems with the PS2 for free, regardless of when the warranty has expeired just to make PS2 owners happy.

They are NOT fixing the problem for free if your PS2 is modded, or it you used any "NONLICENSED" items with your PS2. They could and will say the problem was caused by you using a mod for your PS2. They want people to mod their PS2's to avoid the cost of repairing it for free, either before a product recall which is the case now, or after a product recall.

BTW, to solve nearly all "DISC READ ERROR" problems, simply put your PS2 in the upright position, or completely upside down. This works very well for me. And yes, I have sent my PS2 back to Sony for repair, and they did fix it for free. I am now experiencing a lot of DRE problems once again, but standing my PS2 upright makes them vanish.

Interesting. I just reserved the game yesterday, expecting to get the Japanese. version. Are you sure the Japanese. and HK versions will be released simultaneously?

God damm bs first whe dont get Gt Concept and now prologue :mad: :mad: :mad:
But anyways where still gonna get Gt4 so thats ok

Get would of made millions more if they had shipped GtC and GT4P...

They mean the final version of gt4 noob :P:lol: ;)
