id have to agree its the other people that sound like crap. i've run into a few of them but especially if its people i know they sound just fine to me as i know they use at the very least decent quality headsets.

That is not the mic....the other peoples mic's are $10 pieces of rubbish, therefore they sound really bad.

Precisely. I paired the official PS3 headset to my mobile, and compared it with my $150 Jawbone BT headset, by having them both attached to each ear, and while talking to someone on my phone I would switch from the Jawbone to the PS3 headset and they said both sounded excellent, and that's without the extra HQ audio processing that the PS3 uses when it is paired to the PS3 and not a mobile phone.

Moglet, I realize it's not your MO, but do you think before you post more things about the PS3 that are untrue, could you check your facts first. It would certainly keep you from continually misleading unsuspecting readers. Thanks.

I was just posting my story, as far as I'm aware the only thing I've posted that's 'untrue' is my experience of the headset so far.

Why is everyone on GTP so serious lately? It's a public forum but it feels like you get attacked for posting something that doesn't represent the experiences of the world perfectly. :indiff:

If Sony were to package a headset with the PS3, I'm sure it would be "cheap". Does the Jabra BT125 ring any bells? Yep, it's the Warhawk POC that makes you sound like you are gargling on snot. And then, some games the headsets are REALLY quiet. So the only way to really hear anyone is to turn your sound system all of the way down, bull hockey!!!

Then you've got people that don't realize they have a mic volume control, which there should be none in the first place. It's just one for hoop people have to jump through to play games.

Then there is no standard on headsets for muting or noise cancellation.
I have a family and I'm not in a cave playing my games. This means there is sometimes going to be noise in the background which I have no control over. So, I have to play late at night, which means I can't be as exuberant as I'd like to be, so I don't wake my family up. Also, there are fewer people playing games late late at night.

Mute is a must. I have 3 BT headsets, 1 has a mute. But, to activate it, the -/+ volume buttons need to be pressed and they are hard to press because of how they are placed on the mic.

Simple nuts & bolts of the situation, I need/want to get a really nice headset. Such as the new "Official" PS3 headset or a Jawbone. Sony & PD need to get their heads out of their rear ends and add voice to GT5P. Using Vent or Team Speak is a good work around, but you can't speak to everyone on the track.

I bought myself a fairly decent headset a couple of months ago for the ps3 for about $80AUD, very nice and essential for the games I play.

I've got the official Sony headset for my PS3 and the sound quality is terrible. Everyone sounds muffled and booming, the standard 360 wired headset is much, much clearer and much easier to use, too. Sony really should have packaged something like the Microsoft one with the PS3. It would save so much hassle and would make online games much, much better.

Really? I got mine a few weeks ago and there hasn't been any muffled sound problems

The 360 headset is nice and clear, but as far as I can so is the the PS3 bluetooth headset. It's great compared to my previous headset.

+1 , I have the same background noise as you, from the same source I might add. Its much more prominent On my PS3 with my LG BT, then on my 360. Not sure but must be due to the better mics in a BT that pick up sound more easily, sure is annoying though.:guilty:

I'm going to go and try my friend's headset next week as I get the feeling it may be a faulty one, it definitely doesn't sound right. I haven't been able to understand a single person I've met online. :(

On a related note does anyone know if there is a way to stop the thing from beeping in your ear every 10 seconds or so when it's muted? It's very annoying, the other day I had it beeping so I placed it down on the table infront of me and when I shouted downstairs to my parents everyone heard me... I must have pressed the 'Mute' button by accident when removing it from my ear.

I dont think there is an option to turn off the little beep when your on mute. and I kinda like it actually, in games where there is no press-to-talk feature and I do not want to be heard all the time, I press the mute and the beep just reminds me that its on mute.

I find bluetooth headsets to be annoying. But then again I haven't played much online on the PS3.

That's exactly the reason I hate it though, I don't like having it on all the time, I prefer turning it on to speak then turning it back to mute. But having that little beep means I can't keep it on my ear, it's too distracting. If I want to know if it's on mute I'll just talk and see if the 'chat' icon appears in the game or not.

But that would also mean that whatever game your playing would have an auto-chat feature, some games are press-to-talk so an icon wouldnt necessarily appear everytime you talk. But I can see your point, an option of having the little beep on or off would be nice.

I only use mine when im with my friends but say another group of mates come on it just always starts into an arguement for pointless reason and any insult for any country in the world.

It's funny because that's never happened with me. Ever.
