I just got this game today, and man, it's ridiculous how awesome it is. A must-have for anyone who likes action games, swordfighting, and lots of blood.*

The combat gets you moving and into the game, yet doesn't overuse the motion controls. It's also super satisfying even when you're just slicing through useless, unarmed henchmen. The whole game is really stylish (to great effect), and it's even got a Grand-Theft-Auto-esque free roam element to it, although it isn't as deep because it isn't the focus of the gameplay. Still, customizing your character's appearance and riding around on his ridiculous motorcycle are nice inclusions.

Technically speaking, the game isn't perfect -- for example, the frame rate drops very frequently -- but the combat and sheer style of the game go way beyond making up for the flaws.

I've only played for an hour so far, but I have a feeling my friends and I will enjoy this game for quite some time.

* Only in the american version of the game, apparently. The enemies in the European and Japanese versions explode into black "ash."

Finally a review I can trust. Sounds like it's the game I thought it would be.

Have you upgraded your beam sword yet? I was wondering about the differences it would make.

Considering the man saying this game is awesome also thinks Metroid is awesome, it probably is awesome.

Good to know; I'll have to check it out once I get back home.

I've made it to rank number #6 now, and although the free-roam aspect is still on the unpolished side, it has proven deeper than originally expected. You can rent wrestling videos from the local video store to learn new moves, shop for new clothes, and train to improve your stats at a local gym (with appropriate motion-control-related "minigames"). There are also hidden treasures and items.

The ranking matches against the other assassins are really great -- although your offensive strategy doesn't change much, figuring out the other assassins' moves and adapting your defensive strategy accordingly is gratifying and can be challenging. The character designs are impressive, too.

Aside from gameplay comments, one of the things I like most about this game (which will probably be among the least-appreciated by the average gamer) is that it's very postmodern. 👍

Really? Just two people interested? I guess now I know why no one had started a thread for this game before I did.

I just hope this doesn't reflect the game's sales. :indiff: The success or failure of No More Heroes is going to factor into whether or not third-party developers give us games worth playing.

The Nintendo area in general is kind of a dead zone... I mean, the whole of Nintendo's product range gets one area, while the PS2, the PS3, and the PSP all have their own sub-sections, all with more threads and posts than the Nintendo area.

This place just doesn't have many Nintendo fans because its the system for "kids" and they too manly to get one when they have their big, manly XBOX and PS3.

This game is incredible, I'd also recommend Killer7 (PS2, GC) because it's made by the same developer. Both games have extreme style and bizarre plots and gameplay. I really hope this sells because the developer deserves it and so they can get funding for more games (Capcom publishes these.)

I just hope they don't go the way of Clover...

I don't have this game, nor will be able to get it (I can't have "M" games), but I want it. I want it bad.
I've seen previews for it in various magazines and it looks beyond awesome. I see it as the best Third-Party game available for the Wii yet, and it certainly looks like it will stay that way for a while.

Bought this yesterday and played for an hour or so. It is fun but I'm not sure that it's a great game. It does get a bit repetetive when you're fighting wave after wave of identical bad guys.

Nice touch that to save the game you have to go take a crap!

I had a look at gamespots video review... looks pretty sweet but I only have a PS3 so unless they are intending to bring this to the other consoles I can't get it..

It's pretty good. the only problem is the stupid side jobs you have to do. They make no sense and have zero to do with the story. The smaller assassin jobs are fine, but things like picking up coconuts or finding cats is just stupid.

It is a fun game once you get past that though. 👍

Looks really exciting

I like when they reviewed it on xplay and they kept showing him "powering up" his sword. The motion he does is pretty epic:sly:

I liked the silly side jobs better than some of the more tedious assassin jobs. I thought they were a fine example of the game's humor. :)

The game does look entertaining, i posted that just as a joke. Some people always take the absolute worst looking part of a game and present that to represent it when they are showing someone how awful it is and that always pisses me off. I would rent it if i had a Wii, i will be getting one within the next year sometime because my wife really wants one. I got the NES the first week it came out back in the day and well, most Nintendo games are still set towards kids. People can fight that fight all they want saying they aren't, they are.

Thats not saying that i MUST have blood and gore to have fun. There just aren't any games for it that im thinking, oh i have to play that. Hopefully by the time we get one there will be something that i will enjoy. Only thing i liked on it (borrowed the system from my cousin for a few weeks once) was making the Mii or is it me? Versions of my kids on there. The one i made of me actually looked liked me so much it was creepy...lol.
