No Point in having 16 Cars in a race

There have been plenty of complaints about standard cars, horrible AI, lack of damage etc, but what breaks the game for me is this. You always start in the middle of the pack, which is 8th place. By the first turn you're in 2nd place and by the end of first lap you're in first. I feel like I'm always either racing by myself, or against just one other car.

Ok then let me try picking one of the "typical opponents" cars. This way you have a close race with about 5 other cars for about 2 laps, then realize you're never going to catch the first place guy. You can never have a clean closely matched race in GT5.

9/10 races are like this! For example in the Polyphony Digital Cup. The typical opponents are E46 M3s, Audi S4, etc. So I picked my M3 and gave it a go. By the first turn a GT-R, TVR Tuscan, and an Audi R8, all with titanium exhausts, blew by me. I was stuck in the back with about 8 other cars that were as fast as mine. Why in the world would you place an RSX, an old M3, or an S4 against 500hp monsters?!?! Who tested this game before releasing it??

Here's a picture of one of the races I was in yesterday to better demonstrate what I mean.

GT4 had this issue too so when KY says they made the new game from scratch I just wanna punch him. It's obvious most of the things were carried over from GT4. Even some of the race icons are the same.

Yes, this is also a killing thing for me. A-Spec gets really pointless with that problem. Today I had an Motul GTR racing car on the grid in the europeen championship.

The problem is that you have no chance of winning by using an equal car to the cpu. I am level 23 now and the grinding just started for me. Without the special events, the offline part would be a joke.

But online at the ring and at night is still priceless.

What event do you even get 16 cars. I don't remember any.

This is indeed somethign that sucks. At best, you can deicde whether you want a close race with one car and destroy the ten other entrants. Or you could have a close race with those ten cars and relinquish the first place to that leader-car.

My theory is that you can only get 16 cars in multyplayer because that way, the PS3 doesn't have to handle the AI for those cars. Eleven AI cars is probably all GT5 can manage,

Anyone had a 32 player lobby yet?

Edit. Prologue had 16 though.

Yes yes I soooo agree. We need some way to create our own events. These pre-made ones in A-Spec are just WAY to limiting to the overall enjoyment of single player.

OP I agree and have been saying this the whole time! 👍

This ruins so many races for me becuase beyond what you already said, there is the fact that you almost never get a good race even against the first place fast car.

You either blow by him or he is too fast to catch... I just golded all the professional races and can remember 2 or 3 races where I had a good race against 2 or 3 cars with the 4 of us holding the lead and having a reasonable battle.

But effectively yes you are only ever racing one car and the worst part yet i that if you don't have a faster car than him and whip by the pack early on, the first place car gets a ridiculous lead that you can't overtake....

All it would have taken is qualifying rounds and forcing the race requirements to be tighter. Although with the economy in GT5 that might have been painful too as you would have had to buy many more cars.

A spec is broken and unenojoyable in so many ways :(

I have been in a handful of 16 car races.... forget which but I did notice the 16. I think they tend to be ones where you have to overtake everyone for gold so maybe they were special events....

Indeed, it sucks. Yet another reason why an "event creator" needs to be in the game.

/thread

This will solve 99% of all non-visual complaints.

Being able to have an 'even field" that is not a 1 make race is so obvious its laughable to have left out a custom event mode in what is supposedly the premiere driving game in the console world.

*edit*: An event creator that lets me use my tuned/stock cars from my garage and even recruite my B-Spec Bob's to race with me -- on my custom tracks.

Event creator? How about GT-Mode creator? If PD can't do it right, do it yourself!

Not sure if everybody noticed this but it also lists the typical opponents horsepower & weight, I find that the races are closer if I go by this rather than make/model because often the cars aren't stock. Still doesn't ensure that one car won't fly ahead but may help now & then.

Didn't want to create a new thread so I'll ask here, are there any races at all in the single player game with 16 cars in the race? I'm just up to the final set of races and the they're all 12 at the most so far.

This seems like another "feature" Pd have mentioned only for it turn out you can only do it online.

As mentioned above, there are a handful. I can't remember exactly which ones. I think a few of the S-license races were.

I suspect the licence and special event AI is a bit "special" to allow for 15 AIs instead of only 11.

"Drive as this script says (AI cars will never pass eachother in these events) and if the human comes and interferes, bump into him and get him DQed"
