Meta has acquired a number of Sony patents, including some related to XR headsets, suggesting Sony is significantly pulling back from its XR ambitions.

This is going to be a real shame for any future Gran Turismo games :(

Do PSVR2/GT7 players now contemplate turning towards PCVR in the future or will you get back to flat monitors with PS6 or whatever?

Of course GT8/PS6 could still make use of PSVR2 but the quality will drift from what's possible more and more over the years.

Another, not very likely possibility:
Meta (or others) could make a VR Headset compatible and licensed with PS6. Sony would just outsource to someone who's into VR all along.

I wouldn’t be so sure if GT8 on PS6 will have PSVR support. If Sony want to get rid of VR they would want to focus on other parts of the game. This is why I prefer updating GT7 than new game with less features.

What I am going to do next? Well Sony really did let me down this generation. GT7 and VR is great, but apart of that? Push for weak game as service gamr, closing a lot of great studios which were making my favourite IPs. They have lesss games with each generation. So i am really not convinced for getting PS6 but it is not only because of ditching VR. For now PC with VR is a nice direction, but then again… there is nothing like Gran Turismo there…

quoting from resetera

Skimming through one of the assignment of assignor's interest documents at the USPTO, most patents I've checked from those 186 pointed out by the original article—who didn't even mention this was about gaming, at all— belonged to the Sony Group Corp. or Sony Corp. only. Let's remember how the ET&S business has had for many years their own endeavors about XR platforms, such as XYN more recently.

In fact, none of the PlayStation VR related "US Patent Nos." listed at SIE LLC.'s PlayStation webpage for virtual patent markings has been transferred, all are still assigned to them as originators.
very much seems this is nothing to do with PSVR/gaming

If Meta makes a VR headset for PS6, I guess I'm just going flat-screen. Not giving my money to a brazenly, nakedly evil company like that
