No R1 Zoom function with HDMI?

Just got a new TV, my first HD, and I couldn't help but notice the lack of zoom when R1 is pressed in menus. The HDMI eliminates the need in most cases but the zoom helps when viewing details on cars (like color in the garage thumbnail view). Is there a way to restore the zoom without reverting to co-ax?
 
Sorry I don't think you get a zoom on TVs that have HDMI.
I've tried before on various TVs and if it's got HDMI 720P and higher then I don't think you can zoom as the R1 button wasn't working for me either..
 
Zoom only works on 4:3 resolutions, I'm pretty sure.
 
At least the colors are much more crisp, particularly in the 2-wide garage thumbnail view. Haven't done a B-Spec race yet, is the zoom still disabled there?
 
yes there is no zoom at all on hdmi, 720p and above is clear enough you should be able to see the small writing.
 
Yeah the writing is easy enough, but frankly I could read it before on my CRT. I found the zoom useful for other reasons.

The 720p part is true, not the HDMI bit.

I set mine at 576p when doing long B Spec races and I can use the zoom feature, yes I use a HDMI cable.
