Noise coming from my Honda

Whenever I first start my 95 accord EX, especially when the engine is cool, it makes a short loud whirring sound from under the hood. There isn't anything wrong with the car, it's done it for years, I just wanted to know if anyone else has heard it and what causes it. :)

Man I could have such a field day with this thread seeing that this is a honda, but I won't.

I honestly don't know what sound you are talking about but I cringe everytime I hear a honda start because it doesn't sound like a car starting it sounds like a grinder starting. :scared:

Actually thats the only weird sound it makes, I haven't had any problems at all. It doesnt make any other sounds but that sound, it's not annoying or and only lasts like 2 seconds then stops.

Riiight, get your head out of your ass, dumbdick. A starter is a starter, no matter on which car it is found. They all make the same sound, you're just being stupid.

Now, back to the regular programming... sounds like a worn starter to me, although if the noise still happens once the car is running, it could be a worn belt or something to that effect.

I bet the oil has drained out of the head, and full oil pressure has not been built up yet, the valetrain makes that niose.

I know for a fact that it's not the starter, or a worn belt, all the belts are new and the car only makes the noise for 2 seconds, not while I start the car but after its already running, usually about 5 seconds after the car has started. It's sounds alot like a power antenna, except it comes from under the hood. It does it both in park or if I'm in gear.

Honda does have it's signature sound with the starter. I'm not saying it sounds like a.....grinder, but it sounds apart from all the rest.

Except they are not made by Honda... I believe they are manufactured by Bosch, who manufactures them for a lot of makes out there, including the Big 3...
 
Well Honda still buys them off of Bosch.

Im not saying Bosch is ****ty, i'm saying that Bosch has a signature sound for Hondas, my sister owns a '02 Honda Civic EX. The starter sounds different then my other sister's Neon, my dad's Roush, and my mom's Sequoia...
 
I think your first problem has been ignored in this whole post. YOU DRIVE A CIVIC!! Bwaaahahaha, get a cherry bomb and put it into your fuel tank, problem solved.

I think YOUR FIRST PROBLEM was not reading what skylineGTR_guy stated, he doesn't drive a CIVIC, he drives a 95 accord EX .

Or the fact that he's jealous of Accord's whipping his Pontiac/Chevy.

Anyway, the loud whirring might be just your fan. Do you have a flexfan? Meaning one that flexes (sp?) at higher rpm's. When those are cold started, they typically make a little whirring. Just a guess, though.

Anyway, the loud whirring might be just your fan. Do you have a flexfan? Meaning one that flexes (sp?) at higher rpm's. When those are cold started, they typically make a little whirring. Just a guess, though.

Oh really? I'll have to check that out, I know that my car has 2 fans right behind the radiator. I'll have someone start my car while I have the hood open and see if I can pinpoint it. :)
 
It's the fan. But a fan making a noise at startup isn't very normal (although I have no experience of Hondas, much like F-Body).

Actually, that's not true, and he's not just being stupid. I can identify the cranking-starter sounds of at least 5 different mmanufacturers: Mopar, GM, and Ford products, Hondas, and Toyotas. Each has a distinct sound, and Hondas I've heard do indeed sound like the the starter motor is half shot, even when they're brand new. I've owned 3 Honda products, 2 of which had over 200,000 miles on them, so I know what they sound like.

Not everyone who says something bad about Hondas just hates them unthinkingly.

And sorry but no Toyomatt, no Accord would ever beat my beater rusty old 1987 IROC with a 305. Not a stock accord anyway. Never happen.
