Noob question about cars categories

First of all, excuse me if I'm asking stupid questions but I'm a GT6-newbie and I really need an explanation.
I really don't get the way in which some cars are categorized, for example: I was taking my Amuse S2000 Gt1 Turbo into a seasonal events but I couldn't take part because it isn't fitted as a "race car". Ok, no problem at all. Then I tried to bring that same car into a seasonal event restricted to "normal cars" and obviously I wasn't allowed again to participate...
What kind of car is this Amuse S2000 Gt1 Turbo??? It's not a race car, not a normal car and it's not allowed into gt3 restricted events... is that car in a limbo? :D

And again, is there a way to know exactly all the categories and features of a car BEFORE I buy it???

Last question, I promise: can anyone explain me why the game don't want me to see the features of some cars? There are some cars where I can't see the BHP, the weight and length etc unless I buy it, but the reason of this brilliant idea is completely beyond me.

Thank you very much

Yes

It's a "tuner" car. That means it's not quite a race car, but it's not exactly a standard road car as it has many bits fitted by default that rule it out from that category.

Unless made obvious in the description, nope.

You and everyone else.

One assumes that the intent is the same as the advertised vs. garage power ratings of Kei cars and "Gentleman's Agreement" car (63hp and 276hp respectively in the dealership, commonly not that when you've bought it) - in that the dealers show you what the car was advertised as and your garage shows you what it actually has. This isn't a great deal of use in a game, because we're not driving the advertised cars... It's something I wish they'd stop doing.

It's a tuner. From GT4 on cars have been broken down as Tuners, Race Cars and Road Cars. There was a Concept one for GT4 as well, but my memory is sketchy if it continued for GT5 and GT6.

Incidentally, the other thing is a GT4 change too, so if you can figure out why PD changed from the system that GT1-GT3 had where it actually (usually) showed you what the car had before you bought it to the crapshoot we have now, please let us know.

They removed it from GT PSP onward, probably due to the controversial GT4 Supercar Challenge (the AI can enter Nardo and CIEN, but you can't, due to the "production car only" rule; the PAL version made this worse by using the vague "unmodified" instead of "production"). :)

For the record, I saw someone on Pit Stop blog comments complaining about GT-R NISMO not being able to enter non-race car events - remember, that car is also considered a tuner.
