So guys, I'm new to Sim racing (obv) so this review goes out to the more newer type people......I read every thread in this area dating back over a year to get a good idea of what was out there!

I had my GT5 copy and DFGT wheel and was loving it. As always I wanted more and will get a cockpit and find the best wheel for me.....with this I purchased the Carrera wheel to add the clutch/H shifter....

After driving a ton of hours with the DFGT the Carrera arrived

Here's what I thought of the Carrera wheel....
Cons
1) Not super twitchy (race-y) - after reading most people do not like this feeling, I do...if I hadn't tried the DFGT first I wouldn't even mention this.
2) Purple color of the wheel looks like ass and shifter/pedals are black so it doesn't match
3) the outside top buttons - I hit a lot when racing, I don't think it actually does anything but just annoying that I hit them, takes my mind off racing for a split second
4) Stick shift - if you are driving a 5sp it gets confusing, it's hard to figure out the rolling starts and which gear to be in, down shifting is tough, you need a good stand/position to be effective with it.
5) Navigating the game/menus with the wheel is lacking, it works but the DFGT had this nailed as it was designed for it and not a broad use (of course not as clean looking as the carrera)

Pros
1) Love the wheel size, just feels like a real wheel (DFGT is more toy like)
2) The settings of this wheel are just amazing, you can set anything, not only that it can hold 5 sets of settings so you can have a drift setting, race, etc
3) The brake on this thing is awesome, so much resistance it's easy to apply proper pressure (this alone dropped my times when I got used to it)
4) The cheap rubbery material - I've come to love it
5) Clutch has plenty of life and almost feels real, Gas is floppy but I can manage to hold a constant speed out of WOT
6) Cheap for what you get
7) Firmware upgrades
8) Shifter/clutch when ripping around the track just gives you a great feeling, more into the game, you feel bad a$$ (but much harder then paddles with high end lots of shifting tracks)
9) My times are dropping even over the DFGT wheel.

DFGT
Pros
1) twitchy - (I like this)
2) Button layout is a lot more user friendly for the game interface
3) I have decided I like belt driven over gear driven
4) Simple

Cons
1) No clutch/6spd
2) Weak pedals (which I've come to love feather'n)
3) it's just a simple wheel - for what it is there are not many cons

Summary

The Carrera wheel is awesome - if you want a real car feel, a bigger thicker wheel that is solid in your hands, and need some grit to toss it around - this is for you. If you like the twitchy, more race like feel....it might not be the wheel for you. I have decided I def like belt driven vs gear driven wheels with this short test.

I will be selling my Carrera setup (only used an hr) once I figure out the proper avenue's/rules through the forum (or just toss it up on ebay/craigslist for those in the US)

I guess I'm destined to end up with a G27, I knew I should've bought it when that deal was go'n on!

I took a bunch of pics side by side and such.

If you prefer a more twitchy wheel, wouldn't adjusting the sensitivity provide that?

Also, my understanding was that the DFGT and the Fanatec Carrera are both gear driven. Isn't this the case? Isn't it the GT series and the PWTS that are Belt driven in the Fanatec range?

did you set spring and dampening to 0? try raising driftmode to 3 or 4.

I know w/ the Logitech wheels, you can definately feel the difference when turning. you can feel the notches through the wheel of the gears. with my Turbo S, its smooth because it's belt driven. You dont feel the notches of the Carrera wheel?

Thx for the settings and advice guys.....I literally tried every setting on the Carrera wheel (I went one by one upping and testing - I only tried drift 1 though), it's an amazing wheel for sure....it's just too "Grand Touring" for me......I like it down and dirty, I like twitchy, touchy type controls....

Are they really both gear driven?? They feel night and day no matter what settings I do! If they are that could mean the G27 might not be right for me...man this is a lot harder then I thought......LOL

I also like that the DFGT sorta snaps back at me after tight turns...I'm used to that in real cars. The Carrera I had to caress back......I could be crazy though, the wife sure thinks so....LOL

My biggest problem now is......

Do I go out and get the G27 now, or do I run with the DFGT for now and Pick up a Cockpit until funds replenish. Then sell the DFGT and pick up a G27...what do you guys think? Feels the proper foundation is more important then then wheel upfront.

Man I wish I didn't pass up that

Not sure if this helps at all but i have the dfgt and a mate of mine has the g25 overall feel of the wheel is similar I am leaning towards a g27 myself the only real stopper for me right now is the lack of sequential shifter

Awesome, that does help!

I just went to logitech's site, and low and behold the G27 was still in my cart, and STILL had the discount applied so I pulled the trigger. I figure $230 bucks isn't bad......hopefully I'll fall in love with this one.... Surely the DFGT can't be the best wheel for me.

I'm a paddle shifter in the high end cars and 6spd in the lower so lucky for me sequential doesn't really matter to me. I mean when I got the DFGT the wife was the one that wanted to drive with a 6spd - Free pass for me =)
